**OVERVIEW**: The Shawenim Abinoojii Wellness Team is looking for motivated individuals to support in the delivery of activities aimed at children and youth in and from our Southeast First Nations communities. Shawenim is currently working in collaboration with Indigenous organizations to coordinate activities for Southeast First Nations communities impacted by evacuation due to forest fire.

Additionally, we are continuing to work alongside community leadership and partnered organizations to coordinate our after-school sports and recreation program called the Community Sports Program for children and youth. The Program Facilitator will work alongside our partners in service to improve the experiences of children, Elders, and families. First Nations applicants are encouraged to apply.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITES**:

- Plan, organize, and coordinate programs and resources aimed to promote recreation and wellness amongst Indigenous children and youth.
- Establish positive and effective partnerships with communities, resources, and service collaterals on and off-reserve.
- Complete necessary documentation to track program outcomes.
- Track attendance and develop materials such as posters, registration forms, activity calendar, etc.
- Distribute notices of community-based SAI activities and gatherings.
- Utilize a strength-based approach and liaise with community-based resources to identify community needs and opportunities for SAI to work in partnership with community-based resources.
- Host activities and events that is responsive to community needs and strengths, for the purpose of supporting healthy recreation and community engagement.
- Practice inclusion - include all community members in events and encourage SAI homes to engage with others at community events.
- Maintain an updated Program Budget and coordinate the purchase of food and activity-related supplies when travelling to communities.
- Develop, administer, and continue to evolve the program while building positive working relationships with community and partnered organizations.
- Promote health and wellness, which will help children & youth thrive physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
- Working with the SAI Youth Council, engage local community members to help participate in facilitating programs.

**SKILLS**:

- Knowledge of Indigenous Youth issues and challenges.
- Proven ability to consult productively with collateral agencies and organizations.
- Knowledge of Community and Family strengths and needs.
- Knowledge of the Child and Family Services (CFS) sector and legislation.
- Knowledge of Child Development and Indigenous approaches to community-based care.
- Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture and traditional philosophies.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high attention to detail.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, word processing (MS Word), Spreadsheets (Excel), E-mail (Outlook) and Internet.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Experience working with children and youth.
- The ability to speak Anishinaabe is a definite asset.
- Valid First Aid/ Level C - CPR.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
- The ability to organize and prioritize.
- Valid MB class 5 Drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle and willing to travel.
- Must have current satisfactory criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Adult Abuse Registry Check and Child Abuse Check and PCC as conditions of employment.

**SCHEDULE**:

- 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM - or 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM depending on evening programming requirements.
