Morinville, Canada Sturgeon County Full time

This two-year temporary position is responsible for identifying crime prevention and reduction strategies within Sturgeon County and building strong community relationships and programs to raise awareness and address community safety issues. The Safe Communities Facilitator will lead workshops and various outreach initiatives across a broad range of key stakeholders. The role will also be the liaison between local law enforcement and various community members and groups. This role will research and monitor emerging crime preventive strategies that can be incorporated into the local context as well as analyze data and crime statistics to understand trending issues.

**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Community Outreach and Program Delivery (60%)**
- Actively participates in community meetings and public awareness events to promote crime prevention, municipal enforcement awareness, fire prevention, and overall community safety.
- Takes a lead role in organizing and facilitating outreach initiatives such as supporting neighbourhood watch program, youth safety workshops, community resiliency initiatives, senior safety program, etc. focused on education and enforcement, fostering positive relationships with residents, municipal enforcement, municipal fire services, and policing.
- Collaborates with key stakeholders, including organizations, institutions, communities, and businesses, to facilitate dialogues, consultations, and communications that enhance the safety of residents and businesses.
- Takes a lead role in organizing and facilitating crime reduction and safe communities-related meetings, workshops, and conferences involving government, community, and business groups.
- Creates and implements age-appropriate educational programs for youth, focusing on crime prevention, safety awareness, and community involvement.
- Acts as a liaison between residents, municipal enforcement, municipal fire services, and policing to ensure effective communication and collaboration in addressing safety concerns.
- Identifies and pursues grant opportunities to secure additional funding for community safety projects

**Identification of Crime Trends and Community Needs (30%)**
- Proactively collaborates with local RCMP and engages in ongoing consultations with the public and community stakeholders to identify and analyze emerging crime trends within Sturgeon County.
- Utilizes advanced research skills to explore and evaluate innovative crime prevention strategies that have demonstrated success in other communities. Leverages findings to work closely with local groups, adapting and implementing effective ideas tailored to the specific needs of Sturgeon County.
- Regularly monitors reputable sources and stays informed about the latest developments in crime prevention, safety technologies, and community engagement strategies. Applies this knowledge to enhance and optimize local initiatives.
- Establishes a comprehensive system for collecting and analyzing data related to crime patterns, public concerns, and community needs. Uses data-driven insights to develop targeted and effective safety programs.
- Collaborates with law enforcement agencies, community organizations, and government bodies to identify root causes of crime and safety issues, fostering a holistic approach to community well-being.
- Prepares and delivers reports to Sturgeon County Council and Leadership Team, highlighting activities, projects, and outcomes. Ensures that the information presented is clear, concise, and evidence-based, supporting informed decision-making.
- Actively participates in regional and national forums, conferences, and online platforms to stay abreast of best practices in community safety and crime prevention. Integrates relevant findings into local strategies.
- Establishes and maintains a feedback loop with the community, encouraging open communication and actively seeking input on safety concerns and potential solutions.
- Collaborates with local educational institutions, research organizations, and community partners to explore and implement evidence-based interventions that address the evolving needs of Sturgeon County.
- Develops and implements key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of community engagement initiatives and outreach programs.
- Regularly assesses and analyzes community feedback to gauge the impact of safety initiatives, making data-driven adjustments as needed.

**Other Related Duties (10%)**
- Performs any other duties or initiatives as identified.
- Adheres to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.
- Adheres to all of Sturgeon County’s policies, bylaws, procedures, and processes, as well as aligns work to the Sturgeon County values.
