Indigenous Relations Advisor

Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Relations, the Indigenous Relations Advisor (IRA) will be responsible for, but not limited to:

- Building authentic relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and businesses.
- Engaging Indigenous communities to better understand training needs and other initiatives to improve Indigenous participation in WBF programs.
- Establishing relationships within WBF to support staff capacity to work with Indigenous communities, organizations, and businesses.

Key Responsibilities
- Build community awareness of Women Building Futures (WBF) to promote programs, workshops, information sessions, presentations, and community activities.
- Organize engagement activities (ex. Open houses, meetings with local organizations, presentations.)
- Fostering relationships with key stakeholders in urban and rural communities, build strong and productive relationships between the organization and the community.
- As part of the IR Team’s goals and strategy, the Advisor will work to ensure that the relationships being built will include members from across the organization to ensure that they carry on and become true partnerships.
- Ensure that all engagement initiatives are being met and that funders are satisfied with those efforts; produce and/or contribute to reports in conjunction with funders as
- Collaborating with stakeholders to encourage Indigenous women to start their trades training with WBF.
- Using the various online databases, the advisor will keep accurate and current account of community relations and engagement work.
- Represent WBF at various events and networking opportunities that align with organizational objectives (Communities of interest, EoC)
- Participation in Indigenous community events and include opportunities for staff and students to join.
- Work collaboratively with teams to stay up to date on projects updates and act as an IR representative for various committees (program/projects, H&S, engagement, etc.)
- Provide virtual, written, and verbal presentations as required.
- Contributing to the Indigenous Relations & Inclusion Strategy to increase Indigenous awareness and inclusion across the organization.
- Support with staff learning, including community consultations, classroom, and land-based learning.
- Comply with all the Health and Safety management system requirements.
- Comply with Code of Conduct and lead by example our values and guiding principles.
- Frequent travel by air and vehicle: out of the office meetings and overnight travel will be required.

Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge and direct experience in engaging with Indigenous communities, including on Indigenous history and rights, on cultural protocols and norms, on Indigenous politics and the ability to successfully engage with Indigenous peoples.
- Possesses strong collaborative skills and can develop meaningful partnerships through thoughtful and genuine engagement.
- Demonstrates effective organization and prioritization skills.
- Creative problem-solving skills.
- Strong communications skills - written and oral.
- Understands the barriers facing Indigenous women and historical and contemporary issues faced by urban Indigenous communities in Canada, including but not limited to, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action, UNDRIP, the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
- Ability to collaborate across boundaries and be truly inclusive of all Indigenous
- Ability to support community partnerships and engagement.
- Ability to work independently and consistently to meet deadlines.
- Advise teams regarding the integration of Indigenous engagement into policies, processes, procedures, and practices.

Education & Experience
- Indigenous engagement background with a minimum of 5 years direct experience.
- Experienced in and comfortable with public speaking/facilitation and speaking with job seekers and community leaders.
- Extensive cross-functional track record working across departments to find creative
- Experience with Indigenous populations: knowledge of available community resources for Indigenous applicants and students
- Relevant undergraduate and graduate degrees or diploma (lived experience in an Indigenous community or communities would be considered an equivalent asset)
- Evidence of ongoing learning in related area - Community Engagement, Community Relations, Business and Community D
