**THE ORGANIZATION**

The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) is a non-profit organization created to focus national

attention on mental health issues and to work to improve the health and social outcomes of people living with mental illness. The Commission is seen as a leader nationally and internationally in several areas. Building upon the work done to date, the core mandate, and the unique position of the Commission, and guided by _Changing Directions Changing Lives: The Mental Health Strategy for Canada_, the Commission will focus in the areas of, substance use, suicide prevention, population-based initiatives, and engagement. This prioritization will enable the Commission to be successful in meeting its mandate, staying focused, and having a measurable impact for those living with mental illness and their families and caregivers.

**THE ROLE**

MHCC is hiring a Digital Media Specialist to provide support to the MHCC digital media activities. The Specialist will assist in the development and execution of the Commission’s social media strategies and the implementation of the digital marketing tactics. The Digital Media Specialist will work within the Marketing & Communications department to ensure brand consistency and the appropriateness of content for the respective platforms. The Digital Media Specialist will report to the Manager, Communications.

This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario, at the Mental Health Commission’s Head Office. _This is a hybrid role with an in-office attendance requirement._

**POSITIION SUMMARY**
- Plan and prepare written, visual, and video content in both official languages.
- Schedule social media content to support a larger social media strategy.
- Support ad-hoc requests for social posts.
- Post content to the organization’s website: mentalhealthcommission.ca.
- Update content on the organization’s website.
- Support online community engagement activities.
- Provide social media metrics reports for analysis.
- Prepare, execute, and report on paid social media campaigns.
- Support the implementation of social media tactics.
- Respond to inquiries from the public of various types, some with sensitive content (self-harm, suicidal ideation).
- Work with program managers on content planning for key MHCC and Opening Minds projects and events.
- Stay atop of social media practices, trends, and updates to various platforms, including YouTube.
- Undertake other projects and assignments as required.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- University or college diploma or degree in marketing, communications, or related fields.
- 3-5 years’ experience in a marketing department or agency:

- Planning, creating, implementing, and measuring high-quality social media campaigns
- Populating social media and digital channels
- Proofreading/editing skills for social and digital media
- Excellent knowledge of social platform capabilities, best practices, trends, and emerging technologies.
- Commitment to staying current with best practices, certifications, and professional development.
- An understanding of how social media fits into the organizational ecosystem.
- Interested in social issues and mental health.
- Excellent ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks, and manage time.
- Strong organizational abilities and detail-orientation.
- Flexible, able to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to interact well with others.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build strong working relationships with management and other internal and external colleagues.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and effectively communicate daily activities and changes to a working team.
- Ability to manage stress and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficiency in:

- Social media management systems such as Hootsuite
- Canva

**ASSETS**:

- Fully fluent in French and English is preferable. Advanced proficiency accepted.
- Knowledge of Official Languages Act.
- Knowledge of Accessibility standards.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop preferred.
- Experience working in a mental health or allied health organization.
- Experiencing managing a corporate, nonprofit, association or other large social media presence.
