We are looking for an upbeat and dedicated Compliance Monitoring Lead to support the Chief Compliance Officer in our Risk team. This role is responsible for reviewing, challenging and catalyzing improvements to managing and mitigating regulatory Risk within Aviva Canada.

The Conduct, Compliance, and Financial Crime team are responsible for understanding the spectrum of these risks and their aggregate impact on Aviva’s portfolio for the review and challenge of the business’s assessment of these risks. It provides business leaders with Risk’s independent opinions of risk exposures, risk profiles and actions which should be taken to handle and mitigate these risks. This also includes generating value safely by helping the business to align with regulatory requirements, ensuring outstanding customer/conduct outcomes and maintaining strong regulatory relationships.

The key purpose of this role is to support the delivery of compliance monitoring plans. Specifically, Compliance Monitoring Lead will conduct monitoring activities to assure senior management of compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

What you'll do- Maintain a risk-based Regulatory Compliance Management framework to assess how Aviva complies with its regulatory obligations.- Support the VP, CC&FC to complete reviews in line with the compliance plan and monitoring methodology through the delivery of the key stages:
- Support the development of a Compliance plan through research of the business and regulatory environment, including external factors. Develop a risk-based compliance universe and implement an appropriate plan. Resolve review scope and test plans.- Drawing evidence-based findings and conclusions through a wide range of activities, including interviews, process walkthroughs, sample testing, desk-based review of MI, and governance documentation.- Create and deliver deep-dive reviews on compliance and conduct-related matters, including understanding and testing compliance and conduct-related controls.- Support/challenge the business on new initiatives or day-to-day issues on compliance and conduct-related matters.- Communicate key findings to the risk owners and risk colleagues. Support the business to devise appropriate actions. Build reports to reflect the review findings and follow-up actions accurately.- Provide an ongoing opinion on the risk and control assessment information input into iCare.- Escalate regulatory breaches to VP, CC&FC, and Support management in identifying and implementing actions to mitigate regulatory Risk.- An active member of the team, providing input to the annual monitoring plan, plan refresh, and methodology improvements.- Identify where improvements are necessary to ensure that business practices across Aviva Canada are within our regulatory and conduct risk appetite and tolerance levels.

What you'll bring:
- University education- Chartered Insurance Professional designation (preferred)- Willingness to undertake relevant qualifications as part of a personal development plan is desirable- 5+ years of experience in the financial services industry, preferably in P&C insurance- Experience in reviewing and testing controls is an asset.- Experience in taking care of regulatory issues- Knowledge of federal and provincial regulatory environments and requirements- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.- A deep understanding of the business and the insurance industry, including policy wording, underwriting, claims and governance-related activities.- Commercial awareness so that the Risk and regulatory implications are shaped in a cost-optimal manner.- Good interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and influence at senior management level and deliver good outcomes for end customers.- Familiarity with the relevant departmental and company-wide procedures, policies and guidelines- Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
