**Term: 2 years**

This position is responsible for supporting campus laboratory sustainability programming through engagement with students, staff, faculty, and administrators, in support of the University’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy and associated Shift: Neutral climate action plan. The incumbent will develop and implement programming that directly engages students and employees to raise awareness of sustainability issues and encourage the adoption of laboratory sustainability best practices for energy reduction, waste management, chemical certification, and water conservation, among other environmental topic areas. They will also provide cross-functional support to other sustainability efforts and initiatives to engage the campus community, including engagement programming, communications, and events.

**Responsibilities**:
**Program administration**

Maintain and expand participation in the Green Labs program, including, but not limited to:

- Expanding participation through active recruitment of new labs
- Providing administrative support to participating labs through onboarding and ongoing management of the ambassador network as part of Green Labs program
- Developing tools and metrics for measuring success, tracking and reporting on progress, monitoring feedback, and incorporating suggestions for continuous improvement
- Participating in relevant lab sustainability networks and committees, such as the International Institute for Laboratory Sustainability (I2SL) and My Green Lab

**Programming development**

Develop and support programming to increase awareness of lab sustainability best practices and encourage sustainable behaviours among students, staff, and faculty, including, but not limited to:

- Expanding resource toolkit of laboratory sustainability best practices, including signage, posters, infographics, guides, case studies, etc.
- Liaising with other University departments to build supportive sustainability-focused programming for laboratories and to support implementation of lab changes that improve sustainability
- Delivering training/development opportunities on lab sustainability best practices
- Implementing an annual calendar of challenges, campaigns, and initiatives to encourage behaviour change and friendly competition (e.g. freezer challenge, fume hood challenge)

**Project management support and coordination**

Identify, prioritize, and support implementation of lab sustainability projects, including, but not limited to:

- Conducting site visits to collaboratively identify opportunities for sustainability improvements
- Providing project management support for infrastructure improvements and incentive distribution
- Supporting deployment and implementation of incentives, resources, and technologies that can assist in improving lab efficiency and environmental performance
- Implementing quantitative and qualitative data collection measures to assess impact of lab sustainability initiatives
- Identifying opportunities and barriers to sustainable laboratory practices that can require other policy, process, or systems changes

**Cross-functional support**

Support other sustainability engagement programming and opportunities across campus that intersects with and can mutually reinforce Green Labs programming, including, but not limited to:

- Supporting the delivery of other sustainability engagement programs, including Green Office, Green Residence, and the Sustainability Certificate
- Supporting communication efforts related to engagement programming, such as news and announcements, case studies, social media, and infographics
- Supporting the delivery of the Sustainability Office’s annual calendar of events (e.g. Waste Month, Eco Summit) and participating in other campus and community-wide events as a sustainability resource as appropriate (e.g. booths, fairs, workshops)

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Education or training related to environmental science, studies, policy, communication, or practice
- At least two years of professional work experience related to development and delivery of sustainability programming
- Experience working in or with a research lab or labs is ideal
- Demonstrated knowledge of sustainability and environmental issues as relevant for a post-secondary institution, such as waste, energy, water, procurement, etc.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to collaboratively interact with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Knowledge of research and teaching laboratory systems, equipment, processes, and procedures
- Experience with behaviour-change frameworks (e.g. CBSM), best practices, and program design
- Knowledge in the development and delivery of ongoing training programs and campaign management for employee and student audiences
- Demonstrated proficiency in persuasive communications, including presentations, facilitation, and writing skills, for a range of audiences
