Dartmouth, Canada New Start Counselling Full time

**New Start is hiring a part-time Project Lead for our “Beyond Zero Tolerance: Re-establishing safety and hope for those impacted by sexual misconduct” project, funded by the Government of Canada, Department of National Defence.**

**Contract length: One year term, beginning April 2023**

**Wage: $35/hour, 21 hours/week, flexible schedule**

**About New Start**:
New Start Counselling is a not-for-profit community-based program which offers therapeutic counselling for individuals who have used abuse or violence within their relationships. We also offer therapeutic support for partners and former partners of clients involved, as well as community workshops and public education. In addition, New Start provides therapeutic programming for male-identifying individuals who have been sexually abused. New Start Counselling serves a culturally diverse population, often marginalized by poverty and racism, and includes both urban and rural communities.

**About the role**:
The Project Lead will be responsible for providing direct service to the Defence community, through outreach, education, and counselling. The role will provide education and outreach services to the Defence community, seeking to reach those who may not necessarily identify as being impacted by sexual misconduct or sexualized violence. This may include workshops accessible to members of the Defence community and an awareness campaign promoting our services. The second component of the project is to provide therapeutic group counselling for individuals who have experienced sexual misconduct/sexualized violence. Those who identify as using harm or perpetrators of sexual misconduct will be offered individual counselling, either with the Project Lead or through traditional New Start services. Upon completion of the project, the Program Lead will compile an evaluation report highlighting outcomes, feedback and future considerations.

**Qualifications**:

- Master of Social Work, Master of Education in Counselling, or equivalent education
- Eligibility for registration with a professional college
- Excellent facilitation skills and experience in group counselling
- Experience and familiarity working with the military community considered an asset
- Solid understanding of the impact of abuse and violence on individuals and families
- Experience working with diverse communities using social determinants of health lens
- Strong knowledge of community resources
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge and experience of Narrative Therapy and trauma-informed practice considered an asset
- Experience providing counselling related to intimate partner violence or sexualized violence considered an asset
