The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is the largest Faculty on Western’s campus and employs over 2,300 full-time and part-time faculty and over 1,700 staff.
**Responsibilities**:
The Program Manager will contribute to the success of clinical research and innovation within the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry by providing management and oversight for capacity building projects under the direction of the Associate Dean, Clinical Research. The role will provide leadership and support in developing strategies, and will lead the effective implementation and operationalization of projects, ensuring that stakeholders are kept informed of progress and that the outcomes are achieved within time and budgetary constraints, and in compliance with relevant guidelines. The Program Manager will implement strategic clinical research initiatives, including providing consultation, coordination, expertise, and oversight and ensuring the effective alignment of resources to best support the attainment of the objectives. The role will manage the development of project plans, support the design, implementation and evaluation of project components, and contribute to the collection, analysis and dissemination of project results. The Program Manager will also prepare project status reports for stakeholders, and manage communications and financial information, and develop reports and proposals in compliance with relevant guidelines.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Science or Health-related discipline or Business Management/Administration
- Master’s Degree preferred
**Experience**:
- 5 years of project management or research operations experience in an academic or healthcare environment, including managing the implementation and operationalization of strategic plans, and developing stakeholder and strategic relationships
- 2 years’ experience managing and monitoring projects
- Experience working in a clinical research environment is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of clinical research and of the regulations and guidelines governing research in an academic environment
- In-depth knowledge of techniques for planning, managing and coordinating complex projects that involve a variety of stakeholders, with proven ability to take initiative and champion projects from conception through implementation and evaluation
- Demonstrated knowledge of research accounting and reporting, including the ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to effectively converse with, write reports for, and deliver presentations to all levels of the organization
- Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
- Ability to draw on diversity of skills, backgrounds and knowledge of people to achieve more effective results
- Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained through the appropriate protection, retention and destruction of information
- Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
- Ability to handle details with a high degree of accuracy and to organize and prioritize a high volume of work to meet deadlines
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Superior organizational skills and the ability to efficiently handle a variety of tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines by setting effective priorities
