The Compensation/Classification Advisor provides comprehensive work design, job evaluation and classification services for unionized and excluded positions. The position provides specialized leadership related to compensation/classification issues to Human Resources staff, Providence Health Care’s (PHC) management and senior leaders, and provides advice on job design, compensation and classification issues. The position interprets multiple collective agreements, as well as industry jurisprudence, assesses the impact of job design and classification changes, and monitors changes within the health sector to assess potential impact on PHC. Develops and prepares job descriptions in support of PHC’s recruitment, developmental and performance needs, and advises in the re-design of workflow for areas within the organization, including identifying the potential impacts of changes to classifications, job content and organizational structure. The position provides leadership in resolving union objections, grievances and Job Review Requests, negotiates settlements with Union representatives and stewards, consults with HEABC and various health authorities, and participates on internal and external groups and committees on behalf of PHC. The position may provide work direction to the Compensation/Classification Associate and Job Analyst as applicable.

**Education**: Baccalaureate degree in a related field plus five (5) years of recent related experience in work design and job evaluation within a unionized environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Develops, prepares and updates job descriptions that are accurate and consistent outlining job responsibilities and qualifications consistent with PHC standards, and multi-classification system requirements, and to help support the job evaluation, recruitment, development, structural design and performance needs of PHC.
Analyzes and reviews work, conducts job audits, and makes recommendations on appropriate jurisdiction, qualifications related to duties, reporting structure, financial and operational implications, and the appropriate job classification and pay structure. Advises in the re-design of workflow for areas within the organization, including identifying the potential impacts of changes.
Provides compensation/classification leadership by investigating, analyzing, responding to, and resolving union objections, grievances and job review requests. Negotiates with Union representatives and stewards to resolve issues, researches, consults with HEABC, prepares for and presents, as required classification grievances and third-party interventions.
Assesses the impact of changes in job roles and/or classifications, including changes resulting from industry wide jurisprudence. Plans, develops and implements changes, and provides leadership to ensure understanding of financial and/operational implications.
Participates in internal and external groups and committees and represents PHC to review work design, organization structure, job classification and total compensation issues to share and provide information related to Compensation and Classification.

Develops various tools, services, processes, and systems related to Classification/Compensation to ensure information, tools and processes are readily accessible and consistently utilized. Conducts training sessions for staff, develops training materials, and facilitates sessions.
