JOB SUMMARY

The

Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health

(CEIH) and the

Human Early Learning Partnership

(HELP) at UBC are partnering on an initiative that aims to create structures for meaningful Indigenous Community-UBC health partnerships. We received Strategic Investment Fund (SIF) funding from UBC to undertake this two-year project.

The initiative pursues three key areas of focus:
To learn from existing Indigenous community partnerships by hosting conversations with Indigenous community-led research partnerships to understand what factors make for meaningful partnership and what defines and facilitates success; To build awareness, understanding and capacity within the UBC health community to be able to meaningfully engage and partner with Indigenous communities in a good way; and To understand Indigenous student/staff experiences and hopes for UBC and establish a process for sharing research and job opportunities related to Indigenous health and wellness.

The work is informed by, and will specifically address, recommendations and principles as delineated in the ‘Calls To Action’ by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and Self-Determination and Sovereignty. The ultimate goal of this project is to create and mobilize knowledge and systems that contribute to greater health equity in our society.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS

Housed within the Faculty of Medicine, the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) is an innovative unit that encompasses many of the health-related groupings at UBC as a collaborative venture. The School is structured around four divisions: Occupational and Environmental Health; Health Services and Policy; Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health Practice; and Health in Populations. The resulting mix of professions and disciplines is seen as a means of connecting individuals and learners to galvanize the relationship between health research, public health and health services and to enhance learning.

This position reports to Dr. Nadine Caron (CEIH) and Dr. Martin Guhn (HELP) and will work closely with team members of CEIH and HELP.

Works in an individual workstation in a shared office at HELP (4th floor of SPPH). CEIH is located on the 2nd floor of the SPPH building. Office space has overhead fluorescent lighting and task lighting. Normal office equipment equipped with a PC and shared printer.

WORK PERFORMED

Major responsibilities include:
Project Coordination in line with the deliverables delineated above:
- Manage, develop and implement project proposals, protocols, work plans and timelines- Oversee budgetary costs for the SIF project to maintain budget accuracy alerting management of any potential issues; participates in budget forecasting and preparation and recommending potential improvements to increase efficiency.- Oversee data collection and conduct analyses of Indigenous community-led research partnership conversations- Organize and liaise with Indigenous groups by steering partner conversations and performing an analysis of funding structures and other enabling conditions.- Manage the preparation and knowledge dissemination of project findings, information and materials; engage in knowledge dissemination activities of findings from pilot research, including presenting at regional workshops, seminars, conferences, and developing PowerPoint presentations, etc.- Plan and develop regular learning opportunities for existing UBC, external institutional partners and Indigenous community partners.- Collaborate with Indigenous partners to establish a process for sharing student resea
