Our Vision
Landscape Ontario has identified a need to offer a Horticultural Technician Pre-Apprenticeship Program in the Belleville area to inspire job seekers to pursue meaningful careers in landscape horticulture, in order to support the current and future needs of its members to design, build and maintain living green infrastructure and landscape horticulture projects.

About the Role You’ll Play
As an Employment & Placement Specialist, you'll play a vital role in helping individuals secure employment by providing personalized support, coaching, and resources. You'll work closely with job seekers to assess their skills and career goals, develop job search strategies, and connect them with job opportunities that match their qualifications. Reporting to the Pre-Apprenticeship Program Coordinator, you will deliver employment and placement services for 24 job seekers enrolled in a Horticulture Technician Pre-Apprenticeship Program. You will aim to inspire and engage job seekers by promoting opportunities in the landscape horticulture trades.

Your Key Responsibilities

**Employment Services**:

- Deliver pre-employment workshops to job seekers (workplace communications, conflict resolution, accepting feedback, etc.).
- Facilitate information sessions on services to members, job seekers, and community partners.
- Conduct intake interviews with job seekers to assess their employment needs, skills, and career objectives.
- Provide one-on-one coaching and support to help individuals develop resumes, cover letters, and job search strategies.
- Assist job seekers in navigating online job boards, career websites, and networking opportunities to identify job leads.
- Coordinate and promote careers in landscape horticulture at events, including but not limited to:

- Career and trades fairs
- Industry events including Congress, Green Trade Expo, Chapter & Sector events, etc.
- Provide education and awareness of the industry to the public and members via workshops, promotional materials, and the website.
- Recruit and intake a group of 24 job seekers to ensure that 80% stay employed in the industry 12-months post training.
- Update industry LMI, conduct surveys, and produce reports as needed.
- Provide career counseling, resume writing assistance, interview preparation, and employment-related workshops.
- Coordinate regional Job Fairs in partnership with LO Chapter groups and Employment Ontario Service Providers and community partners.

**Apprenticeship**:

- Register apprentices, track progress, and support with apprenticeship completion.
- Track apprentices and employer sponsors and report statistics to the Ministry.
- Collaborate with College partners and Ministry Consultants.
- Support apprentices with in-school apprenticeship training registration and provide case management support as needed.
- Assist employers and apprentices with navigating the apprenticeship system.

**Job Development/Job Placement**:

- Recruit employers to hire job seekers, register apprentices, and retain employees.
- Collaborate with industry partners to identify apprenticeship opportunities and facilitate placements for program graduates.
- Provide guidance and support to participants throughout their journey, including assistance with career planning, resume building, and interview preparation.
- Conduct job placements to match job seekers to employer’s job opportunities to promote the ‘right fit’ that will lead to greater employee retention rates.
- Create training plans and monitoring visits to ensure placements are successful.
- Ensure program participants secure paid job placements.
- Assist employers with accessing financial hiring incentives.
- Match job seekers with suitable employment opportunities based on their skills, experience, and career goals.
- Coordinate job interviews, job fairs, and recruitment events to connect job seekers with potential employers.
- Provide follow-up support to placed individuals to ensure their successful integration into the workplace.
