The Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture (NSFA) represents the interests of Nova Scotia’s agricultural community. Today its membership accounts for well over 90% of all agricultural production in Nova Scotia and brings together farm businesses representing all aspects of primary agriculture in the province. The NSFA tackles policy issues that impact the competitive and sustainable nature of the industry and takes an active role in supporting registered farms through the delivery of programs and services. The NSFA supports farms by providing tools, resources, best practices, and training while advocating on their behalf.

The NSFA, in collaboration with Farm Safety Nova Scotia, is seeking a Farm Safety Coordinator (FSC) to support a culture of health and safety where every decision made on Nova Scotia farms begins with safety. The FSC will coordinate the delivery of programming and resources needed to promote and support health and safety practices within our farm community. The FSC will make recommendations to leadership on health and safety programs to be delivered. The Farm Safety Coordinator will support the organization and industry in emergency preparedness and emergency management.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead and implement farm health and safety programming in alignment with Farm Safety Nova Scotia’s strategic plan
- Manage and coordinate training, workshops and outreach events for the farm community on farm health and safety
- Manage and coordinate delivery of tools, resources and best management practices for the farm community on farm health and safety
- Manage and coordinate farm inquiries; serving as the first point of contact and mitigating issues
- Support farms in fostering a culture of health and safety for their employees as a recruitment and retention strategy
- Support coordination of industry-wide and on-farm emergency preparedness strategies and practices
- Support and coordinate the development of farm health and safety campaigns such as One Road and Canadian Agricultural Safety Week
- Coordinate the promotion of farm health and safety through the development of promotional materials and content for various communication platforms including websites, articles, newsletters and social media
- Manage and build a network of specialists, subcontractors, and consultants to support the advancement of the Farm Safety mandate
- Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with related organizations (e.g. Commodity groups, LSI, WCB, CASA)
- Support advocacy efforts in matters of health and safety with the government, health and safety associations and other outside agencies and organizations
- Engage with members to understand and support their farm health and safety needs

**Skills & Qualifications**
- Post-secondary degree in agriculture, occupational health and safety or equivalent
- Program development, implementation, and evaluation experience
- Knowledge of the agriculture industry and occupational health and safety is an asset
- Experience working with small and medium-sized rural business is required
- Experience in emergency management and critical incident response is an asset
- Effective time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
- Effective problem-solving and leadership skills
- A Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required

**Compensation**
- Starting annual salary between $56,000 - $65,000
- 3 weeks of vacation annually
