**Organizational Overview**

The Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture (NSFA) represents the interests of Nova Scotia’s agricultural community. Today its members account for well over 90% of all agricultural production in Nova Scotia and it brings together farm businesses representing all aspects of primary agriculture in the province. The NSFA tackles policy issues that impact the competitive and sustainable nature of the industry and takes an active role in supporting registered farms through the delivery of programs and services. The NSFA supports farm employers by providing tools, resources, best practices, and training while advocating on their behalf.

The NSFA is currently seeking an Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) Coordinator to join the Environment and Climate Change (ECC) Team. The EFP Coordinator will work with the ECC Team to deliver the EFP program by collecting relevant information through interviews and on-farm site visits and providing reports to farms regarding areas of environmental concern. The EFP Coordinator plays an integral role in providing farmers with knowledge, education, and guidance on issues related to environmental stewardship including: water, nutrient management, fuel storage, pesticide management, soil management, habitat and biodiversity, energy efficiency, soil conservation, crop management, livestock management, manure management, chemical and fertilizer storage, and waste management.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Act as a primary contact for farms seeking to obtain or renew an EFP and track required follow-ups with farms.
- Conduct interviews and on-farm site visits to collect relevant information to create Environmental Farm Plans for individual farms.
- Write EFP reports to assess risk and assign risk ratings, including recommendations for actions to be taken.
- Ensure all relevant farm data is entered and updated in databases.
- Provide supporting materials including fact sheets, publications, resources, and best management practices to farmers.
- Use Geographical Information System (GIS) to characterize farms, input data and updates as required.
- Manage and coordinate the development and delivery of workshops, tools, and resources to support best management practices.
- Liaise with members to understand and support their environmental needs by providing them with relevant information, tools, and resources.
- Liaise with stakeholders such as commodity groups, the National EFP, and government to support collaboration and coordination of activities.
- Support farms with program compliance, mitigating issues (i.e., complaints) and responding to environmental inquiries from farms
- Review provincial programs and advise farmers on available funding to assist with implementing EFP recommendations.
- Serve on committees and working groups.
- Provide environmental expertise to support internal or external initiatives such as Living Labs and Species at Risk.

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Environmental Studies, or related field
- Professional Agrologist designation (P.Ag) or eligibility for designation
- Certified Crop Advisor considered an asset
- Strong communication, both verbal and written
- Knowledge of Nova Scotia agriculture and industry culture is required, and on-farm experience is considered an asset
- Knowledge of GIS and databases is considered an asset
- Proficient in M365 and Adobe programs
- Team-oriented but able to work independently
- Must have valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a vehicle

**Compensation**
- Starting annual salary between $57,000 and $62,000
- 3 weeks of vacation annually
