We are currently seeking deckhands to contribute to the success and operation of Rockport Boat Line.
Rockport, Ontario is a quaint village located in the heart of the 1000 Islands, an internationally known tourism destination, offering seasonal sightseeing boat tours and waterside accommodations on the St. Lawrence River. The 1000 Islands region is also home to the famous Boldt Castle on Heart Island.
Our location provides the most unique and scenic backdrop highly sought by both tourists and residents. Along with being the leading cruise operator in the 1000 islands, Rockport Boat Line operates three distinct restaurants on the river’s edge. These include Cornwall’s Pub, the Boathouse, and Island view restaurant. All three restaurants provide a pleasurable dining experience within different segments of food and beverage and hospitality.
Under the supervision of the Captain and Mate, the duties and responsibilities of the Deckhand include, but are not limited to, the following:
Duties Include:
- Provide a welcoming and enjoyable sightseeing experience for guests
- Work with all crew onboard to maintain a safe and cooperative work place.
- Work with crew to practice regular marine emergency drills including man overboard, abandon ship and fire drills.
- Participate in seasonally mandated marine security drills and exercises.
- Routinely complete daily marine safety checks every morning before vessel is operational.
- Handle bow and stern lines when departing or arriving at dock.
- Maintain inventory levels and order food & beverage stock
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the vessel by performing frequent walk-throughs and assisting staff with post-cruise cleaning
- Greeting passengers and ensuring they safely board and exit the vessel.
- Regular cleaning internally and externally of vessel with mops, brooms and brushes.
- POS use for completing food and beverage transactions
- Follow all health and safety procedures and policies
- Restock and clean washrooms regularly throughout the day
- Handle Cash for sales for canteen service
- Additional job duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Smart serve required.
- Valid passport an asset to enter U.S.
- A positive attitude and good work ethic
- Walk, stand sit and work in all types of weather conditions.
- French language speaking a strong asset
- Transportation required to work location (no public transportation available
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends and holidays
- Knowledge of boating and the Thousand Islands an asset
