We are currently embarking on our new Master Plan and creation of a Community Conservation Campus. As one of the GTA’s Top Employers, we are seeking an experienced Gas Technician with with trade licensing and supervisory experience to join our Maintenance team.

**Basic Function**: Reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Manager, this position is responsible for the supervision of all aspects of infrastructure, buildings, and services. This includes preventive maintenance work, state of good repair work, inspections, testing, projects, construction, and operations related to heating, lighting, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, emergency generators, electrical/hydraulic doors and filtration systems. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the approved Strategic Plan.

**Responsibilities**

Interviews, selects, trains, supervises and directs, evaluates, schedules and disciplines assigned staff.

Monitors and records time and attendance of staff.

Ensures the timely and efficient preparation of all required reports and statements and the proper maintenance of all records.

Prepares and administers annual budget for unit.

Maintains spare parts and stock inventory including product research and cost analysis.

Ensures proper maintenance and preventative measures are taken in regard to all major buildings for heating, refrigeration, filtration, building automation systems, computerized maintenance management systems, emergency generators, ventilation systems, mechanical/electrical doors, aquatic breathing air systems, exhibit life support systems, air conditioning, sump and sewage pumps, emergency lighting and exhibit lighting systems.

Ensures compliance with all legislation and applicable regulations.

Implements and operates continuous preventative maintenance program.

Operates and maintains the building automation system.

Trains staff in the operation and maintenance of the BAS (building automation system).

Makes recommendations regarding replacement, upgrading or purchasing of equipment or machinery required to maintain the physical plant systems.

Schedules and keeps accurate record of all repairs and maintenance performed by the Unit.

Responsible for ensuring the good maintenance practices and cleanliness of all boiler and mechanical rooms on site, tools, equipment and all shop areas.

Responsible for LSS maintenance equipment/facilities, inspection, repair, and installation. Monitors the training and development of all staff in the branch and ensures that they acquire the required certifications and evaluates their competency level. Ensures all life support systems, exhibit lighting and water treatment facilities are operating within all environmental and departmental regulations. Implements LSS SOPs, checklists, forms and other documentations with their team. Ensures all LSS equipment and exhibit lighting are checked, repaired and replaced if necessary. Works with and monitors automated life support control systems and exhibit lighting control systems.

Responsible for ensuring compliance with GHS legislation, the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Toronto Zoo Safety Policy and ensuring all employees work in a safe manner, with the appropriate protective equipment and that all accidents and hazards within area of responsibility are promptly investigated and corrective action taken.

Responsible for co-ordination of contractor work related to Unit including obtaining quotes, reviewing specifications and drawings, and ensuring work is completed satisfactorily in accordance with project documents.
