About Us
The Status of Women Office works collaboratively with government departments, agencies, academia, community groups, and women-serving organizations. It is responsible for operational and administrative support to transition houses, women's centers, the Nova Scotia Native Women's Association, and Alice House.
The Status of Women office leads Standing Together, Nova Scotia's coordinated approach to prevent domestic violence, and the implementation of the National Action Plan to End Gender-based Violence. Our vision is gender equality, and our current priorities include ensuring safety from gender-based violence, enhancing women's economic security, and promoting women's leadership.
About Our Opportunity
As the Program Manager with Status of Women, you will play a crucial role in shaping and administering core programs that support women across the province. Working within our Programs & Outreach Team, your expertise will ensure the successful coordination and management of services that have a meaningful impact on the lives of women, particularly through vital partnerships with 20 Transition Houses, Women's Centers, and various organizations leading gender-based violence initiatives.
You will support frontline organizations, ensuring they deliver essential services while aligning with the provincial response to major inquiries such as the Mass Casualty Commission, Desmond Fatality Inquiry, and the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
In this role, you will oversee program design, administration, and evaluation, helping to shape future strategies and policies in response to the evolving needs of the women-serving sector. You will also support the delivery of Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) training to government partners and provide expert guidance to provincial and national organizations. Through your leadership, you will ensure that critical programs and outreach initiatives continue to evolve and deliver lasting impact throughout the province.
Primary Accountabilities
As the Program Manager, you will manage and deliver outcomes for key programs that support women-serving organizations across the province. This is a highly external-facing role, where you will regularly meet with participants to assess their needs, ensure program alignment, and provide ongoing support to organizations. You will attend community events, proactively seeking opportunities to build new relationships, and strengthening collaborations with partners.
In addition to overseeing program administration, grants, and assistance programs, you will help develop annual training and engagement plans for the team, ensuring they stay current with the latest gender research and remain connected with diverse communities. You will also contribute to designing and evaluating programs that guide future policy directions, providing strategic recommendations and business analysis to municipal, provincial, and federal partners. Additional responsibilities will include managing budgets, resources, and relationships with clients and service providers, while continuously monitoring program progress and ensuring the team remains engaged and aligned with organizational goals.
Qualifications and Experience
You must demonstrate strong leadership and relationship-building skills, along with a high level of understanding of gender and equity issues. You should be comfortable speaking in public, delivering presentations, and facilitating training sessions. Experience in teaching or adult education (certification is an asset) is highly beneficial, as you will be responsible for developing and delivering training programs.
**Key qualities of yours include**:
Proven experience in building authentic relationships and working collaboratively with communities, particularly those disproportionately experiencing gender-based violence.
Strong knowledge of Mi'kmaw and African Nova Scotian communities, with the ability to work respectfully and effectively within these and other underserved groups.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint for presentations
Experience in program administration, including monitoring, evaluating, and providing strategic recommendations on programs and policies.
**Though not required, highly desirable assets include**:
Background in Social Work, social sciences, or experience working with non-profits and community organizations.
