**Overview**

The Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) has a career opportunity for a Government Relations Advisor to provide government relations expertise that facilitates best practices across the organization and to help lead the government relations function, interacting directly with local, national and international government officials and stakeholders.

**Accountabilities**
- Work collaboratively with the External Relations team, internal staff and external clients or stakeholders to identify major emerging or anticipated issues, as well as coordinating or executing strategies to address or respond to these issues
- Provide strategic issues management and government relations advice to staff, including the Executive Team; provide guidance and training for events or high-profile diplomatic visits
- Support in the development and implementation of the government relations strategy to keep government stakeholders regularly informed of SRC issues and impacts
- Maintain effective working relationships to liaise with relevant partners and contacts in various levels of municipal, provincial, federal and international governments
- Lead the development of key strategic government relations materials including ad hoc issues/briefing notes, the bi-annual House Briefing Book, SRC’s Annual Report, Treasury Board package, Estimates package and other Cabinet documents, as required
- Manage visits/tours/meetings from high-profile diplomats/government officials, liaising with various levels of government and leading an internal team to deliver a detailed and productive program
- Work with external stakeholders and government entities to support SRC’s various business functions, develop new business lines, meet new clients and get into new markets

**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, Journalism or Public Relations
- Minimum 5-8 years working in a professional communications environment, with involvement in media relations and issues management and knowledge of and/or experience with government relations and the complex activities and operation of federal and provincial legislative bodies

**Skills**
- Experience overseeing public and/or media events or high-profile engagements and preparing key materials for participants
- Experience writing to a wide range of styles and audiences with ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience
- Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
- Able to handle sensitive and confidential information with a high degree of discretion and professionalism
- Experience building and maintaining positive working relationships with diverse stakeholders (e.g. business, political, government, media, academia), exercising good judgment and tact
