The Architectural Institute of B.C. (“AIBC”) is seeking a **temporary **full-time Paralegal, Illegal Practice Officer (“IP Officer”) to join our hardworking and collaborative team for approximately **15 months** (April 2023 to July 2024). This position plays an important role within the Professional Conduct and Illegal Practice department and will appeal to those who have a strong interest in professional regulation, working in the public interest, and the legal process.

**About the Role**
The IP Officer handles concerns and enquiries against those who are unlawfully providing architectural services or misrepresenting themselves as architects and providing or offering architectural services, contrary to the _Architects Regulation_. This position also supports the professional conduct branch of the department with the enforcement of standards for registrants, including complaints, investigation, and discipline. You will work closely with other members of the department and with members of the AIBC Investigation Committee, assisting with drafting correspondence and reports.

- solving skills are crucial. Additionally, the ability to navigate difficult conversations and pay close attention to detail in all related tasks is of critical importance.

- Have strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience managing complaint queries, writing reports, and preparing legal documents;
- Have strong customer-service skills and remain objective and professional in challenging conversations such as when a person is upset or confrontational;
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively prioritize your workload, work independently, and collaboratively within a team that places a strong emphasis on cross-training across departmental functions; and
- Have good computer skills and confidently use tools and software such as Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, databases etc.).

You have gained these capacities through:

- A B.C. paralegal designation and having at least two years of paralegal or legal administration experience;
- A degree or diploma in a related field, or an equivalent combination of related experience, education, or training may be considered; and,
- Experience working in a regulatory body, government agency, post-secondary or non-profit are considered assets.

Related litigation experience is also considered an asset.
