**Communications - Digital Specialist**

Genome Alberta is a publicly funded not-for-profit corporation that initiates, funds, and manages genomics research and partnerships. Genome Alberta strives to be the leading source of information and administration related to genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics research in Alberta. We are dedicated to informing students, researchers, research organizations, our partners, and the public regarding opportunities and challenges in genomics and proteomics, and in encouraging the development of a Life Sciences research industry in Alberta.

**About the Role**

This is a full-time position in our Edmonton office. The position will consist of 37.5 hours per week (7.5 hours per day, Monday-Friday) and reports to Genome Alberta's Director of Communications and Partnerships.

**Responsibilities**
- **Digital content planning, creation, and curation**_
- Developing and curating clear, compelling, impact and people-focused, accessible, and accurate written and multimedia content for Genome Alberta’s digital platforms to advance our profile, visibility, and impact storytelling.
- Develop and maintain a digital content calendar (social media, web, newsletters) to support Genome Alberta communication outcomes.
- Proactively propose and develop original and re-shared content for social media posts and campaigns.
- Help identify opportunities to effectively connect and engage with key stakeholders in our research and innovation space.
- Draft compelling web content—including blogs, event posts and media releases—and update website to maintain a user-friendly, accessible, and effective web presence.
- Produce engaging visual content for social media, web, newsletters, and other promotional materials using Canva, Adobe suite and using professional graphic design support.
- **Communications impact measurement, analysis, and reporting **_
- Track and report on communications impact and reach across platforms (web, social media, advertising, newsletters, media tracking) to provide meaningful impact assessment to inform and improve Genome Alberta’s communications.
- Draft and deliver regular and ad hoc communications impact reports.
- **Newsletter production and management of distribution lists**_
- Develop content for, and design, newsletters via Mailchimp to support delivery of challenge-based initiatives.
- Maintain newsletter distribution lists, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Canada’s ani-spam legislation (CASL).
- **Other support as required for Communications activities**_
- Stay abreast of emerging issues pertinent to Genome Alberta and provide support for developing key messaging and timely, relevant audience focused content.
- Provide internal and external event support and logistics coordination, including setting up and attending booths, handling registrations, scheduling team meetings, taking meeting minutes and following up on actions items, liaising with internal and external event counterparts to keep events on track.
- Recommend and develop systems for multimedia asset storage and organization (photos, video, GIFs, etc.).
- Other duties, as assigned by the Director of Communications.
- Post-secondary education in a related field such as communications, journalism and/or public affairs/relations
- 2-5 years of relevant experience. Minimum of 2 years professional relevant experience. Additional years may be an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent digital communicator across platforms, demonstrating skill and experience in social media management, writing, web content creation/curation, newsletter development, digital campaigns, and storytelling.
- Strong skills and experience with a range of digital media tools, platforms, and related metrics (web, social media, newsletters, virtual events, etc.).
- Strong experience in social media success measurement, web analytics reporting and overall impact reporting.
- Familiarity with Alberta government policy directions, and connections to research and innovation ecosystem is a strong asset.
