**Membership Mobilizer (Temporary Full-time)**

**Job Overview**

CUPE 2278 is a growing union that seeks an experienced, high energy, union activist to help mobilize and organize its growing membership. This job will focus on internally organizing CUPE 2278’s current membership, rather than externally organizing new members into the union.

This contract is for twelve months. There is a chance that a permanent position may be created in the future.

**Responsibilities**

The Membership Mobilizer will be responsible for the following:

- Developing a network of workplace stewards and representatives.
- Recruiting active members to assume roles as workplace stewards and representatives.
- Working with colleagues to train workplace stewards and representatives.
- Mobilizing members around collective bargaining and other topics and events identified as priorities by the elected leadership.
- Performing research around potential bargaining priorities with the context of PSEC and the University of British Columbia.
- Assisting in investigating workplace grievances.
- Other duties as assigned by the 2278 Executive Committee.

**Qualifications**
- While no formal education requirements are required, a strong understanding of university workplace culture, and the working lives of graduate student workers is essential.
- Experience in organizing workers is essential. Experience in organizing young workers is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with under-represented and disengaged union members.
- A strong understanding and ability to include equity principles into their work.
- A strong understanding of the benefits of unionization for temporary and contract workers and a strong commitment to organizing culture.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of CRM is an asset.

**Remuneration**
- Compensation is a salary based on $40 per hour, and a 35 hour work week. Benefits are paid out, as there is no benefits plan.

**Preferred start date is April 15, 2024**
