**MAIN PURPOSE**:
The Accounting Clerk will be responsible for providing accounting and clerical assistance to the Accounting Department. We are looking for a skilled Accounting Clerk to perform a variety of accounting and bookkeeping duties using our accounting software to process business transactions, like accounts payable and receivable, inventory, expense disbursements and journal entries
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Provide accounting and clerical support to the accounting department, as well as company personnel as needed.
- Enter monthly cost and general ledger entries as required.
- Review and reconcile a variety of accounts payable reports and vendor statements.
- Following up with customers/internal staff for invoice/payment discrepancies.
- Ensure the confidentiality and privacy of financial records as they relate to the organization and its customers.
- Ensure inventory is managed accurately (inventory entered in and out as received and used) as per monthly requirements.
- Assist and manage inventory and cycle counting, developing processes as required.
- Assist in the collection and reconciliation of credit card statements.
- Other duties as required.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
- Understanding of cost and general ledger coding and entries.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks and quickly adjust in a rapidly changing environment.
- Effective and proven organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to enter and update high volumes of data in an accounting program accurately.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Demonstrates an ability to perform maturely and professionally ensuring complete confidentiality of sensitive and confidential info.
- Demonstrate the ability to think critically, act logically to evaluate situations, solve problems, and make decisions.
**JOB REQUIREMENTS**:
- A degree or diploma in Commerce, Business Administration, or equivalent discipline is an asset.
- Proven accounting experience, preferably working with journal entries and inventory.
- Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Experience using Sage Accpac or CMIC is an asset.
- Hands-on experience with spreadsheets, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Ability to perform filing and record keeping tasks.
- Experience working in the construction/railroad industry is an asset.
