**Salary Range**: $ 47,919

John Howard Society of York Region (JHSYR) is a non-profit, charitable organization serving residents of the York Region. The organization works with individuals involved in any stage of criminal justice involvement and their families.

The primary function of the Community Justice Worker will be to support the intervention, reintegration, and intensive case management of precariously housed adults within the York Region, with an enhanced focus on those involved with the justice system; misusing substances; and at risk of losing their shelter. The Community Justice worker will help individuals with housing stabilization and security, which includes access to support, harm reduction, and education.

This position will require providing support to adult individuals through crisis intervention wraparound support and referrals; aiding them in obtaining housing and employment, and helping clients learn budgeting and money management skills. Other responsibilities might include but not limited to addressing healthy boundaries and communication with clients; practicing problem-solving techniques; exploring healthy lifestyle and leisure pursuits and learning stress reduction strategies.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Complete individual intake assessments to determine program suitability and appropriate community-based referrals and supports needed.
- preparing, documenting, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating personalized support plans with each client based on their individual needs.
- Assist the client with accessing basic needs including food, clothing, furniture, and transportation assistance.
- Support the client by helping them access assistance programs including OW and ODSP, utility funds, trusteeship programs, and specialty funds such as the Rent Bank.
- Assist clients in searching, finding, and securing affordable housing.
- Promote problem-solving by facilitating a discussion that focuses on clear communication and achievable solutions between clients and landlords.
- Make Links and Referrals by assisting clients with connections to all other housing stability resources, including healthcare, family support, immigration, training, and employment.
- Provide Information to Tenants and Landlords including resources, education and legislation that contribute to the common goal of sustaining successful tenancies for the long term.
- Assist in arranging community service, and/or identify and provide referrals to local culturally appropriate agencies, programs, and support services.
- Assist with system navigation of government and community programs specific to housing stability and basic needs.
- Connect directly with clients to provide immediate support and counselling sessions.
- Complete individualized goal-planning exercises and various learning activities with clients.
- Exercise a flexible, non-judgmental, anti-racist and anti-oppressive approach to people and

- Maintain and respect professional boundaries with clients and

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Combination of post-secondary degree, diploma and/or certificate and practical experience in a relevant Human Services and/or Social Services field.
- Experience delivering case management and wraparound support to diverse populations.
- Experience working with criminal justice involved individuals and diverse communities with an understanding of the barriers and factors leading to criminal justice involvement, socioeconomic barriers, and language needs.
- Lived experience of involvement with the criminal justice system is an asset.
- The ability to speak multiple languages is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to actively listen and provide an empathetic approach to client interaction.
- Ability to maintain relationships with community agencies and stakeholders.
- Strong ability to advocate for clients by upholding and representing JHSYR's mission, principles and core values.
- Professional demeanor with strong rapport and relationship building skills.
- Familiar with various community organizations and resources in the York Region, with the ability to seek out resources beyond this area.
- Strong sense of team cohesion and collaboration, with the ability to work independently.
- Highly organized with keen attention to detail and strong prioritization and multi-tasking skills
