**Job Title**: Community Service Worker

**About Thorncliffe Park Women’s Committee**:
The Thorncliffe Park Women’s Committee is a grassroots organization dedicated since 2008 to creating healthy and vibrant communities by implementing public space enhancement projects and empowering women by providing opportunities of engagement and integration through capacity-building, education, entrepreneurship and civic participation in Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood. Projects have included the rejuvenation of the local RV Burgess Park, North America’s first ever outdoor Tandoor Oven, running the Friday Night Community Market, Youth Ravine Stewardship Program, the Community Gardens, and most recently, pivoting during the pandemic to create the Neighbours in Need program delivering hot culturally appropriate meals made at the Park Cafe.

**Term of Contract**:9 weeks, 30 hours per week, start date flexible but ideally in June.($15.50 per hour)

**To be eligible, participants must**:

- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_ for the duration of the employment; and,
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations **.**

**Primary Function**:
The Community Service Worker works with a diverse underrepresented and underserved population in the low income neighbourhood to provide learning and development support based on TPWC’s mission to improve the well-being of the community. They will coordinate all the TPWC’s community development initiatives such as Park Café and the seasonal weekly market.
This includes, but is not limited to:
**Responsibilities**
The Community Service Worker is responsible for the following:

- Oversee all aspects of community development initiatives
- Work with the Program Director to develop, implement, and evaluate project plans and strategies designed to inform clients, employees, and the general public of TPWC's initiatives
- Planning and overseeing new marketing initiatives.
- Maintain related databases.
- Help the marketing coordinator design promotional materials and disseminate contact and resource information material
- Collaborate with communities to assist networking, initiatives and support meetings/events
- Assist in improvising the Café menu and inventory procedures
- Work in collaboration with the Business Developer
- Help design promotional materials and disseminate contact and resource information material
- Onsite supervision of the summer staff and volunteers
- Supervise the Café staff
- Responsible in providing full support on-site at the weekly market including the Café and Tandoor, assign duties to the staff and volunteers-set up & wrap up
- Reach out to other non-profit organization/businesses to participate in our market
- Communicate with entrepreneurs, partners, regarding business and development issues.
- Monitor and examine market conditions and emerging trends which may impact existing and potential business and make recommendations for action in response to the same.
- Manage and retain relationships with existing clients.
- Research and identify new business opportunities - including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products and services
- Initiate and champion special projects related to economic development
- Prepare reports for and make presentations to entrepreneurs, partners, stakeholders, and other groups as required.
- Conduct surveys of participants
- Fulfill related administrative duties as needed including reporting on activities
- Maintain accurate time sheets
- Adapt to a flexible working schedule that includes some late evenings and weekends

**Qualifications**:

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in working in a café preferred but not required
- Excellent communication skills.
- Must be a team player and have the ability to work independently
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with people of different ages, genders, abilities, cultural backgrounds, and individuals who experience marginalization
- Ability think quickly to creatively problem solve
- Reliable self-starter, with excellent ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, follow through, and meet deadlines

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 9 weeks

Pay: $15.50 per hour

Flexible Language Requirement:

- French not required

- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate:
