X-ray Fluorescence Technician

**Position Overview**:
NUVIA is currently recruiting for an X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Technician to join our Radiation Protection team located in Port Hope, Ontario.
The XRF Technician will assist with the operation of X-ray fluorescence equipment and supporting the analysis of elemental composition in various materials. The XRF Technician will be responsible for processing and analysing soil cores and sharing details of the analysis with the appropriate stakeholders.
**Responsibilities include but not limited to**:
**Sample Preparation**:
- Assist in the collection and preparation of samples for XRF analysis following established protocols
- Ensure proper labeling and documentation of samples
**Instrument Operation**:
- Operate XRF analysers to perform soil analysis
- Follow safety procedures and protocols while handling XRF equipment and samples
- Assist in routine maintenance of XRF equipment
**Data Collection and Analysis**:
- Record data accurately from XRF tests
- Assist in the basic analysis and interpretation of data to determine elemental composition
- Report any anomalies or deviations in data to supervisors
**Quality Control**:
- Assist in performing routine quality control checks on XRF equipment
- Ensure compliance with quality control standards and protocols
- Maintain clear and organized documentation of quality control activities
**Reporting**:
- Help generate basic reports summarizing analysis findings
- Communicate results to relevant stakeholders
**Collaboration**:
- Work closely with Technicians to support ongoing projects
- Provide support in other laboratory activities as needed
**Other job duties as assigned**
**Education**:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Environmental Science or a related scientific field from an accredited educational institution (required)
**Skills / Qualifications**:
- Basic understanding of scientific principles and laboratory practices
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic to intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat
- Prior experience in an XRF laboratory setting is preferred
- Familiarity with XRF or other analytical techniques is preferred
**Special Features of the Role**:
- Must be comfortable working with potentially low-level radiation material
- Must be capable of wearing PPE, including respirators if required
- Must be able to comfortably sit for extended periods of time
