Remediation Verification Field Technician

**The Opportunity**:
WSP has a significant volume of work supporting Canadian Nuclear Laboratories at the Port Hope Area Initiative. We have positions available for a range of technical field staff and these needs will evolve over time. You’ll be part of our growing team, using your skills to support the implementation on one of the landmark remediation projects in Canada. At this time we require four (or more) technicians to support the Remediation Verification program following the removal of Low Level Radioactive Waste and other positions will become available.

**A day in the life**:
**On a daily basis you’ll be using your training to**
- review past information to assess gaps in information and develop a sampling plan;
- monitor excavations;
- scan and sample completed excavations and characterize soils;
- scan interiors and collect samples;
- check and maintain a range of equipment (e.g., radiological instruments, GPS, x-ray fluorometer;
- assist in the resolution of issues and assess whether more or less remediation is required;
- input data and conduct quality reviews of data(much of the data is housed on a GIS); and
- report on the findings.

**You may also**
- supervise drilling and collect/characterize soil samples;
- collect characterization/sampling;
- conduct vapour sampling;
- collect radon samples ;
- conduct designated substance assessments; and
- other tasks as may be requested by CNL.

You’ll be assessing hazards and supporting the overall health and safety culture of the project.

You’ll be managing relationships with internal and external teams and clients to ensure their needs are understood and met, providing your guidance and expertise.

**What you’ll bring to WSP**:
**_3 - 5 years in a similar role _**
- _College or University education or experience in soil or groundwater assessment or remediation. A background in radiation protection, biology, GIS or other disciplines may also be applicable. _
- _Preferably a year or two of experience conducting field work (and preferably soil or groundwater sampling or radiation protection)._
