We are hiring two (2) Full Time, Permanent Project Manager positions to join the Project Management & Engineering team working in Edmonton, Alberta.
As a Project Manager, you are accountable for managing the delivery of multiple small to medium size drainage projects with low levels of complexity, or assisting senior level project managers in managing large, complex projects, from inception to execution, through sound engineering and project management principles and practices, leadership and interpersonal skills.
What you’d be responsible for
The Project Manager is accountable to Senior Manager, Project Management, and operates within the context and prescribed limits established by the Senior Manager, Project Management. Key accountabilities while on the role include, but are not limited to:
- Developing and implement appropriate (3 - 12 month) deliverables within the context of the Project Management business plan (including drainage capital program plan, operational plan, procurement plan, resource plan and project implementation plan).
- Identifying the necessary budget requirements for implementation of drainage capital projects including engineering design and construction.
- Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. Regularly monitoring, measuring, and reporting metrics (e.g. cost performance, schedule performance, scope and quality performance). Making timely adjustments using sound project management principles to ensure overall targets are achieved or exceeded. Responsible to effectively setup and manage multiple projects at a time.
- Ensuring optimal deliverables through effective cross-functional accountability and authority practices (when relevant) within Senior Manager’s context and prescribed limits.
- Implementing and reviewing Project Management processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensure mitigation of risks.
- Managing a diverse project team to achieve project objectives. The project team may include external (consultants, construction contractors), and internal (design engineers & technologists, construction managers surveyors, inspectors and construction supervisors) resources
- Ensuring that the Project Sponsor is properly engaged, consulted and informed through timely communication and interactions. Engaging key stakeholders, which include other areas of Drainage Services, other departments, utility companies, regulatory agencies, private sector entities and the public.
- Developing scope statement based on project objectives and assessing design needs of project with designer. Developing and implementing project management plan(s) including other key plans (management plans: scope, cost, time, risk, human resource, quality, communication, stakeholder, financial, safety, environmental and integration). Safely delivering projects on time, on scope and on budget. Effectively and accurately reporting project status as per Departmental and/or Corporate requirements.
- Developing procurement strategy and performing procurement activities. These include preparing request for proposal/ qualification documents, preparing construction tenders/contract documents, evaluating proposals and bids, and recommending award.
- Monitoring, controlling and managing change. Ensuring changes are assessed and implemented in a controlled and integrated manner.
- Evaluating and assessing contractor’s ability to assume Prime Contractor responsibilities for a project, and assigning Prime if necessary. Ensuring all Prime Contractor responsibilities are met if EPCOR is to retain Prime.
What’s required to be successful
- Education and Experience:_
- Completion of post-secondary education from a recognized post-secondary educational institute in either:
- Bachelor degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical or Environmental, Civil Engineering degree is preferred)
- Engineer-in Training (E.I.T.) designation with APEGA
- Diploma in an Engineering Technology program (Civil Engineering Technology); or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation with ASET.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with a C.E.T. designation, in design, construction, and project management.
