Reporting to the Medical Director for Critical Care & Interfacility Transport (MD-CC/IFT), BC Emergency Health Service (BCEHS), Critical Care Education Physician Lead is a member of the Clinical Operations, Provincial Transport Services Team. Working in full partnership with the Interfacility Transport, Critical Care & Aeromedical Transport Education Manager, this position is critical in ensuring that BCEHS meets its mandate to provide reliable, accessible, high-quality pre-hospital and interfacility critical care and supports learners and existing clinical staff in developing and maintaining the skills and education necessary to provide effective evidence-led care in a range of modalities.

**Key Accountabilities**

In a dyad relationship with the Interfacility Transport, Critical Care & Aeromedical Transport Education Manager:

- Recruit and supervise the physician faculty for delivering critical care education.
- Engage with various stakeholders internally and externally to inform the mission and mandate of aeromedical and interfacility transport clinical services, with a particular focus on representing the views of patients, Indigenous Communities and the wider rural and remote context.
- In collaboration with the Clinical-Operations and Learning leadership functions within the organization, participates in and informs organizational policy and decision-making based on the best available data using a range of qualitative and quantitative evidence.
- Provide medical oversight for Practice Educators relating to critical care and interfacility / aeromedical transportation.
- Jointly provide oversight and assurance for the quality of critical care education.
- Develop and be accountable for the assessment process of critical care paramedic students to certify that they meet the expected standards of performance upon completion of their training.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across organizational functions and other stakeholders (ie Critical Care BC) to identify clinical education needs and participate in planning, implementing and evaluating programs to meet those needs.
- Jointly accountable for assuring the development and updating of resources to deliver and support education to assure staff development and competency.
- Contributes to the overall leadership of critical care education by fostering a climate of continuous learning, participating in the identification of quality and learning goals as well as recommending new initiatives.
- Participates in patient and stakeholder engagement to ensure representation of patient experience and expectations in line with the Quintuple Aim. Further, gathers, evaluates and integrates student and learner feedback into programs of education and clinical support.
- Participates in research to establish and develop ‘best practices’ in education and integrates best practice models from other organizations, as appropriate, related to advanced practice education.
- Participate in clinical operations activities such as providing medical oversight (direct & indirect), triage, transport advice, and clinical supervision to ensure they remain competent and current in pre-hospital care and inter-facility transportation.
- Facilitate and support a culture of staff safety and engagement.
- Act as representative of BCEHS in specific activities from time to time.
- Undertake specific projects assigned from time to time by the MD-CC/IFT.

**What you bring**
- Current registration with BC College of Physicians and Surgeons, or eligibility for registration.
- Fellowship in a relevant Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada Speciality including, but not limited to Intensive Care, Anaesthesia, or Emergency Medicine (or eligibility for registration) is required.
- Clinical experience practising in prehospital and transport medicine.
- Diplomate in Prehospital and Transport Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is highly desirable.
- A master’s degree in Education or relevant health care discipline is desired with at least 3-5 years of recent, related experience in quality improvement and large complex academic settings.
- The ability to work in a co-leadership model combined with a proven ability to build internal and external partnerships and respond to needs while supported by an acute awareness of the impact of actions.
