OVERVIEW

Responsible for the appropriate and efficient placement, transfer, and discharge of all inpatients, day surgery, and day medicine patients. This includes supporting day-to-day activities to maintain patient flow in collaboration with the patient care team. Patient Flow Coordinators and Managers support the movement of admitted patients from the Emergency Department and the flow of patients between programs. Also responsible for facilitating repatriation of patients with Physicians and Mangers and to identify any process barriers to the manager of the appropriate inpatient unit.

EDUCATION
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
- Completion of Medical Office Administration or Patient Registration courses preferred

QUALIFICATIONS
- 2 years recent relevant registration and admitting experience required
- 2 years recent bed allocation experience preferred
- Previous clerical experience in a hospital/medical environment preferred
- Knowledge of hospital Admission, Discharge and Transfer (ADT) Systems preferred
- Knowledge of electronic bed board and bed placement systems preferred
- Strong customer service skills and experience required
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and problem-solve
- Previous experience in bed allocation preferred
- Demonstrated ability to accurately type a minimum of 35-45 wpm
- Knowledge of medical terminology an asset
- Demonstrated ability for attention to detail while providing high standards of accuracy and efficiency
- Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic work environment
- Demonstrated ability to manage stressful situations with empathy
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Experience collecting and processing payments an asset
- Evidence of ongoing education such as post-secondary courses, seminars, workshops, etc
- Must be available to work weekends and statutory holidays
- Must be prepared to work in all areas of Patient Access Services as needed
- Good work and attendance record required
