Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Canadian Brokerage Operations, the Regional Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the Regional Centre operations and the overall performance of department managers, team leaders, supervisors and their respective staff. This position is also responsible for promoting and maintaining a high level of employee competence, morale, service excellence and adherence to corporate policies, procedures and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee Regional Centre staff by assisting and supporting the managers, supervisors and team leaders to continually develop and execute processes in order to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Maintain good working relationships throughout the organization
- Maintain positive communication with executives, brokerage staff outside the region, peer management group, IT, finance and other departments
- Assist with client retention by encouraging and maintaining client relationships through regular communications, visits and monitoring all related operational activities. Ensure any client related issues, questions or concerns are handled in a pro-active, professional manner.
- Supervise, direct and provide guidance to staff members including:

- preparing, updating and communicating standard operating procedures based on corporate requirements.
- monitoring and completing staff performance and salary reviews and providing coaching for any performance issues.
- reviewing and approving attendance and managing staff schedules, ensuring there is adequate coverage at all times.
- developing staff and fostering growth by recognizing and facilitating opportunities for education and training.
- Perform a variety of administrative and analytical functions and other tasks as assigned by senior management including reviewing and approving payables, preparing reports, managing and maintaining budgets, etc.
- Review operational targets to ensure that progress is made in regards to goals communicated by the corporate strategic plan and budgets.
- Attend industry functions (e.g. CSCB, CBSA and CFIA meetings) as required. Research and communicate current events within the industry, legislation and regulations relative to carrying out of day-to-day business
- Support growth initiatives by way of pursuing additional opportunities through existing client relationships as well as by supporting the initiatives of the Sales & Marketing Department.
- Ensure proper maintenance of Company property and assets
- Attend to other miscellaneous tasks as needed

Education and Experience
- College diploma in a business-related field (preferred) or equivalent practical experience
- A minimum of ten years’ progressive experience in the customs brokerage, logistics, international trade or related fields
- A minimum of five years of management experience
- Must be CCS certified (preferred) or have completed equivalent industry specific training (e.g. post-secondary or in-house courses related to customs brokerage, freight forwarding, supply chain management, logistics, etc.)

- Knowledgeable in areas of Canadian Customs Regulations
- Must maintain effective, ethical and workable relationships with all association contacts
- Must have a leadership style that encourages collaboration, cooperation and teamwork and have the ability to successfully challenge and motivate others
- Strong coaching and mentoring abilities
- Must be decisive, focused, and self-disciplined with superior organization skills
- A demonstrated sense of urgency and the ability to resolve operations issues is required
- Demonstrates self-confidence and interpersonal flexibility, initiative, perseverance and integrity
- Strong operational sills in a customer-service environment
- Experience working in a fast passed, deadline and standards driven environment

Working Conditions, Mental Effort & Physical Requirements
- While the majority of time is spent in an office environment, this position must also travel on a regular basis.
- Work involves a high degree of alertness and concentration to complete job tasks.
- Communications and contact with those within and outside the organization are often difficult or stressful in nature and involve complex, detailed and often sensitive topics.
- A valid driver’s license and current passport is required.
- Must be able to travel internationally (normally Canada and US) to visit clients and other Farrow offices on occasion. Generally less than 25% of time is spent travelling.
