Nishnawbe-Aski Legal Services Corporation is presently recruiting for a
**LEGAL AID ASSESSMENT OFFICER**
- **Thunder Bay, ON**_
The position is responsible for processing and interviewing applicants that require the services of legal aid and to determine financial and legal eligibility for legal aid certificates or referrals to other services. The assessment officer will also be responsible for general administrative work, responding to a high volume of inquiries and attending northern courts as needed.
**Qualifications**:
- Experience working with NAN and in First Nation Communities
- Organizations skills, ability to multi-task, and work under pressure
- Well-developed written and verbal communications skills for dealing with clients, legal profession and other agencies
- Utilize sound judgement for dealing and interviewing vulnerable clients
- Maintain knowledge of LAO policies, Criminal Code of Canada, Family Law Act and Child, Youth and Family Services Act.
- Possess sound knowledge of the PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office and virtual software
- Knowledge and experience with Indigenous Peoples culture
- Ability to speak Ojibway, Cree or Oji-Cree an asset.
