Civil Lawyer Job Summary

Nunavut Legal Aid is seeking a skilled Civil Lawyer to provide legal advice and representation to eligible individuals in matters related to civil law, such as housing, employment, police misconduct, human rights, and other legal issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and services related to civil matters, including landlord-tenant disputes, employee-side litigation, mental health law, and guardianship.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis, gathering evidence for legal cases presented.
  • Offer written and verbal communication/legal opinions to clients or senior leadership as required.
  • Draft legal documents and contracts as needed.
  • Evaluate cases and negotiate settlements where necessary.
  • Represent clients in court.

Requirements:

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Nunavut or eligible to be registered.
  • Demonstrated civil litigation experience and knowledge of relevant civil procedure.
  • Demonstrated experience in handling complex legal issues.
  • At least one year of civil litigation experience, including mediation, settlement negotiations, trials, etc.

Compensation Package:

A competitive salary package range of $125K to $190K, including benefits.
