**Position Summary**

The Education Officer is responsible for the delivery and success of training programs designed for CAPE members and for building and engaging a learning community.

**Requirements**:
**Education & Experience**
- Undergraduate degree that provides thorough professional knowledge of labour relations, changing practices and related precedents, or of associated fields such as labour economics, sociology of work, industrial psychology, labour law or other fields related to work or education that enable a person to lead and coordinate education programs. A graduate degree is preferable.
- 4 to 7 years of relevant work experience with unions, government bodies or NGOs, in the development of an education/training program for union members or union employees.
- Note: Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience are considered._

**Key responsibilities**
- Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative and dynamic education programs for CAPE members.
- Leads and develops a continuing education program for CAPE employees and is responsible for managing training requests by employees called upon to deliver various aspects of the Association’s union training program.
- Designs and delivers training intended for CAPE’s NEC on a variety of themes related to sound governance of the organization. Acts as the main resource for NEC’s Education Committee.
- Engages on behalf of CAPE with a network of external stakeholders in matters of knowledge-sharing and learning, including the Joint Learning Program (JLP) and the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC). Manages the JLP for CAPE members.
- Develops and maintains the member engagement strategy aimed at building a community of members, a stewards’ network and a community of strong locals that reflect today’s labour movement.
- Proposes innovative events using myriad tools for sharing knowledge in order to create new opportunities for member engagement.
- Contributes to CAPE publications and internal reports.
- Acts as the principal union education resource for locals, senior executives and union stewards.
- May perform other duties as assigned.

**Other skills and abilities**
- Demonstrated knowledge of training methods and practices, union movement, union organization and practices, principles of labour and human rights legislation, and current major social, political and economic issues.
- Solid knowledge of labour relations and employment in the federal public sector and the union movement.
- Skill in expressing information orally and in writing is required to deliver training programs to CAPE members and contribute to publications and reports.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office suite software.
- Knowledge of training methods and practices.
- Thorough professional knowledge of the unions that represent the employees in the federal government and of the vast union network across Canada.
- Thorough professional knowledge of the mandates of various federal public service organizations.
- Knowledge of the vision, mandate, objectives and culture of CAPE.
- Thorough knowledge of the history and values of the union.
- Solid organizational, project management and critical thinking skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and aptitude to work as part of a team.
- Capacity to assess the long-term needs of the organization, determine timetables, and adjust them as needed.
- Ability to work with shared human resources, determine their best use, assign tasks, and manage the time and priorities of these resources.
- Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment and to achieve results on tight deadlines.
