Come work as a Medical Director with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)
The MHSU Medical Director for Vancouver Community (VC) will play a pivotal role in providing leadership and oversight within the Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) continuum of care. Working in close partnership with the other MHSU Medical Director, Psychiatry Department Head, and VC Operations Director colleagues, the incumbent will operate within a functional dyad structure to ensure effective coordination and leadership across all respective VC services and teams and their associated medical staff. The portfolio will include:

- Child and Youth MHSU Programs
- Eating Disorders Program
- Access and Assessment Centre at VGH
- Assertive Outreach Team
- Car 87/88
- BC Operational Stress Injury
- BC Centre for Sexual Medicine
- Early Psychosis Intervention Team (Vancouver)
- Outpatient Services (including Regional Mood Disorders, VGH Outpatient Services & Regional Adult ADHD)

Specific Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Develops a vision and strategies, in collaboration & partnership with operations leaders that ensure integrated and sustainable programs and services, consistent with established priorities and the larger vision, values and strategic direction of the organization.
- Establishes an effective workforce plan, in collaboration with key partners and stakeholders, that ensures the ongoing availability of qualified and technically competent medical and other designated staff within the context of operational demands and environmental and resource constraints.
- Assumes overall leadership for medical staff activities within the programs/services in accordance with the relevant regulatory bodies/Colleges.
- Leads the identification of educational needs for medical staff & teams within the programs/service. and facilitates teaching and research activities focused on incorporating best practices based into care delivery.
- Participates in the development and successful management of capital and operating budgets to complement strategic directions within existing fiscal constraints.
- Ensures that an appropriate and effective medical performance management system, with clear medical quality, risk, process and utilization management indicators and performance objectives, is in place to assess the delivery of services within an interdisciplinary and multi-site environment.
- Implements integrated credentialing policies, standards and practices for medical staff within the programs/services in compliance with accreditation and professional standards.
- Creates and guides the implementation of effective strategies for continuous improvement of medical services, standards and practice within the programs/services to encourage best practices, improve clinical outcomes, and achieve defined standards of care.
- Fosters strategic and working relationships with internal and external stakeholders that result in sharing of knowledge, monitoring of trends, identification of opportunities to promote innovation, exploration and partnerships for improvement, facilitation of best practices, improved patient access, and efficient transition and flow of patients across the care continuum.
- Ensures compliance with legislation and safety standards to provide a healthy and safe environment for patients, staff and medical staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Reporting Protocol
This Medical Director role shall report to the Senior Medical Director, Vancouver Community.

**Qualifications**:
Performance Review & Evaluation
Administrative appointments at VCH may be renewable upon satisfactory review.
Criteria for satisfactory review include:

- Continued commitment to excellence in patient care (quality of care and service delivery);
- Maintenance of required specialty certifications in your specialty while in active clinical practice;
- Demonstrated achievement of annual continuing medical education goals (as established by the Canadian College of Family Physicians or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable);
- Leadership and interpersonal skills;
- Collaboration across services/programs/portfolios to plan and resolve issues in order to meet the needs and mandates of VCH as a whole;
- Successful management of medical staff and related issues within the portfolio;
- Effective management and utilization of resources within the portfolio; and
- Compliance with the Rules, Regulations and policies of VCH.
