About The Role
The Controller, Revenue and Billings is responsible for the end to end process from the revenue recognition of research contracts as a percentage of completion basis, pass-through revenue, billings and collections. This role requires to provide excellent client service, supporting client requests and building strong relationships between internal clients and finance.
What You'll Do Here
Team management and Customer service
- Provide leadership and support to the financial analysts and the billings and collections teams;
- Provide support and guidance for complex matters such as significant contracts, new revenue stream (if any) or any other matter related to revenues;
- Assist the contracts team from time to time to ensure appropriate and accurate contract language is included in sponsor agreements;
- Provide support for incoming queries, enabling issues to be resolved by the correct party and owning the issue until resolution.

Month-end closing process and Controls over financial reporting
- Review the monthly revenue recognition for all revenue streams and approve the month-end journal entries;
- Review the combined analysis of contracts in progress and deferred revenue and approve the journal entries;
- Perform an analytical review of the operational cost centers income statements to identify potential mistakes or missing accruals and prepare adjusting entries accordingly;
- Review the intercompany sub-contract general ledger accounts and ensure they are reconciled and cleared in a timely manner;
- Supervise the monthly Accounts Receivable closing process;
- Review the monthly Revenue analysis and Management report prior to distribution;
- Coordinate the forecast process for the Research Services stream and oversee the revenue forecasting of the Montreal multi-segment operations;
- Monitor the WIP/Deferred Revenue report and unbilled pass-through costs to identify potential billing risks and opportunities and drive the assessment of recoverability of WIP. Cleanse non-billable items regularly;
- Track and review pending change orders to ensure timely recognition of revenue and billing of services in excess of initial contractual agreement;
- Develop and maintain financial controls over accounting transactions in accordance with the company’s procedures.

Billings and collections
- Support the billing manager to ensure that all billings are accurate and as timely as possible;
- Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly, and recorded accurately and timely. As needed, actively participate in collection efforts;
- Ensure proper set-up of studies in databases and systems.

Process improvement
- Identify areas of improvements for efficiencies and coordinate with internal resources for optimization of Revenue recognition, Billing and Credit Control processes;
- Lead the different harmonization initiatives between all sites;
Reporting
- Support the financial analyst team in the Revenue analysis for the Montreal site and Consolidated revenue analysis;
- Provide ad hoc revenue analysis or research study profitability analysis as requested from time to time from management and operations;
- Calculate operating metrics;
- Provide financial analysis as needed.

ERP
- Participate in the implementation of Workday through the role of ambassador, serving as an advocate for the Workday transformation through education, communication, and business readiness (expected go-live date July 1, 2024);
- Assist the Contracts and Revenue ERP team lead, including but not limited to, providing support for conversion of projects to Workday.

Compliance
- Oversee and coordinate all information requests to external auditors for processes and controls in regards to the Revenue recognition, Billing and Collections processes;
- Provide all supporting audit information requests relating to Revenue recognition, Billing and WIP/Deferred Revenue;
