**JOB SUMMARY**:
The Special Operations, Planning, Training and Logistics Branch of the Ottawa Paramedic Service (OPS) is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of paramedic specialty teams, including tactical, CBRNE, marine and bike; training and development of internal staff and Public Education; and the provision of logistics, vehicle and equipment maintenance/stocking, cleaning and repair, facility management and general administrative/financial services to support a performance-based environment and the effective functioning of the Service.
The Public Education section develops and delivers OPS’s WSIB-accredited First Aid training program and other public education training programs to the general public and City staff.
You are responsible for assisting the Superintendent with the development, delivery and evaluation of these programs, and delivering specialized training when required.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
A post-secondary certificate in adult learning/adult training
Minimum of 5 years of experience delivering standard and emergency first aid training
**CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES**:
Current First Aid, CPR and AED Instructor certificate
Current Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate
Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
**KNOWLEDGE**:
- Principles and concepts of adult education and continuous learning
- Methods, techniques and practices of adult training, including curriculum design/adaptation, delivery and evaluation
- Current standard and emergency first aid and CPR protocols and procedures
- Concepts of quality assurance and improvement
- Familiar with City of Ottawa and Ottawa Paramedic Service policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Familiar with the province’s Occupational Health and Safety Act; Employment Standards Act (Ontario); Labour Relations Act; Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and related regulations
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
**COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:
- Analyze client training requirements and tailor course content, as required
- Complete reports on training metrics
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Customize training for different audiences, using a wide range of traditional and non-traditional tools and methodologies
- Competent in office software including MS Office programs (specifically PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word), SAP and CLASS
- Excellent written and verbal communicator
- Strong interpersonal skills and customer service oriented
- Attention to detail
- Capable of multi-tasking, managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines
- Energetic and reliable
- Innovative, analytical problem solver and results-oriented within an environment of shifting priorities

- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
