In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Information Technology division is currently hiring for an Informational Technology (IT) Technician.

The IT Technician will perform installations, maintenance and repair work on computer equipment (including, microcomputers, computer terminals, communications equipment, local area network, equipment and peripherals), perform troubleshooting activities and carry out equipment modifications as required, maintain a parts inventory and deliver informal presentations to staff on information obtained through attendance at training courses, and run recovery procedures on damaged volumes, files, or documents and perform administrative activities to maintain efficient day-to-day system operation.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?- Perform equipment repair work in the computer maintenance shop. Refurbish and rebuild small peripheral devices (eg, printers, tape back-up units, etc), including dismantling, identifying and replacing worn parts, and performing testing routines to ensure restoration of device to peak operational state.- Carry out equipment modifications in accordance with Engineering Change Orders (ECO's). As specifically assigned, or as part of a service call, alter components and boards including rewiring where necessary.- Give informal presentations to unit staff on information obtained through attendance at manufacturers and suppliers training courses. Prepare presentation materials with a view to sharing the most important and relevant new technical information obtained. Document individual discoveries of solutions to new problems while trouble-shooting or correcting equipment failures, for Supervisor's review.-
- Perform routine procedures, such as operating system conversions, upgrades in software and deletions from server files, which impact on the majority of system users. Run recovery procedures on damaged volumes, files or documents; perform cleanup and re-initialization procedures as required. Perform other administrative activities (including writing procedures for administration and users) to maintain efficient day-to-day system operation, informing Supervisor of results achieved.- Investigate and trouble-shoot system failures and malfunctions, where several systems, such as network communications, PC workstations and host mainframe computers are interconnected, and where many users may be involved. Run diagnostic routines to identify operating faults and problems with software and hardware, including peripherals and interfaces. Work with vendor support staff and others to identify corrective action required, and resolve problems in a timely manner to minimize the disruption to divisional clients and activities. Contact appropriate personnel within the division or business unit if the associated client's problems are not within the scope-service provided by the computerized office systems network. Reload software and restore/recreate databases in the event of equipment malfunction.- Perform routine system maintenance and housekeeping activities. Monitor file organization and perform major archiving as necessary to reduce system volumes to acceptable standards. Attend to malfunctions, working with vendor support staff and others to schedule maintenance or upgrading activities. Ensure clients are kept informed of system problems and scheduled downtime. Respond to requests from users and install/repair hardware (eg. boards); hook up printers; install current software; and set up PCs for operation. Create and maintain an inventory control database of major computer equipment (including PCs) for the divisional LAN, ensure all system software is current and keep a service log of divisional and client hardware.
