What You Will Get To Do

Duties for this newly created progressive role include, but are not limited to:

- Prepares and provides interpretation and recommendations to Council on various long range planning projects, special studies and planning-related strategic priorities.
- Supervises, mentors, directs and oversees a team of professional staff and assignments, and provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public on complex sensitive professional planning assignments.
- Manages long-range planning initiatives, studies and projects such as Official Plan reviews, Zoning By-law reviews, Secondary Plans, Community Improvement Plans, Master Plans, and other planning and policy matters.
- Responsible for supervising major complex planning studies on an on going continuous basis, which includes directing/supervising consultants and internal staff.
- Manages projects including conceptualizing, work planning, resourcing and evaluation, as well as long-range planning projects including the preparation of complex reports and regular presentations to Committee and Council.
- Tracks regulatory legislative changes and provincial planning policy changes and ensures Planning Department, other Town Departments and Council are kept informed.
- Acts as a key resource for various Town Committees as may be required and assigned by the Director or the Manager. Recommends hiring of outside consultants and acts as a liaison between consultants and Town staff on specific projects.
- Oversees the production of schedules, maps, digital 3-D urban design modelling and other visuals for use in effective communication with the public and/or Council regarding planning policies and planning-related Strategic Priorities.
- Other responsibilities include the development of planning recommendations for departmental consideration, presentation and discussion with other internal staff, developers and politicians and the subsequent implementation of planning decisions.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned in accordance with departmental and corporate objectives.
