**POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The duties for this position may involve but are not limited to:

- Supervise the daily activities of members of the Technical Support Unit, and coordinate, prepare and schedule day-to-day activities of members.
- Organize, enhance, troubleshoot and document the York Regional Police Communications Network, including reporting and tracking problems that need to be serviced by vendors currently engaged in service contracts with YRP.
- Provide technical support and maintenance of communication control equipment, infrastructure, voice and data communication equipment, RF equipment, instruments and peripherals.
- Install, test, troubleshoot, evaluate and repair the voice and data communications network and related equipment, including GPS and oversee troubleshooting of vehicle electrical systems.
- Research, evaluate and integrate network system and data communication hardware and software.
- Set up and operate specialized and standard test equipment to diagnose, test and analyze the performance of electrical and electronic components, assemblies and systems.
- Maintain, troubleshoot and administer the use of local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs) and computer workstations and peripheral equipment.
- Consult user guides, technical manuals and other documents to research and implement solutions.
- Utilize monitoring tools such as Gen Watch and SIP to track radio activity and affiliations, monitor duplicate and illegal IDs, analyze radio system traffic and profuse statistics and reports on the Trunking Radio System.
- Checking functionality and monitoring other alarm conditions on infrastructure equipment at Headquarters.
- Monitor Communication Reports to determine failures, breakdowns and other problems related to dispatching operations and use login problems in CAD.
- Repair, service and maintain Mobile Work Stations in all front line vehicles as well as portable radios, including but not limited to restoring connectivity, repairing/replacing faulty timers, repairing damaged cables, troubleshooting printers and computer systems within vehicles.

**MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Successful completion of a three (3) year diploma in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of previous experience with High-Availability or Mission Critical system operations bringing a methodical approach to making system changes. Experience in the use of computer networking and infrastructure, RF and Microwave technologies and Radio Trunked/Simulcast knowledge.

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Previous supervisor and management experience is preferred.
- Problem solving abilities in order to troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and configure all electronic and electrical apparatuses. Situations often involve intangible uncertainties and require variations in approach to resolve.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to interact with YRP members at all ranks, including Communications Supervisors, vendors, equipment installers and system integrators to interpret explain or exchange information of a complex technical nature.

**ADDITIONAL NOTES**:

- Physically capable to repeatedly sit-in and get-out of vehicles frequently on a day-to-day basis.
- Able to manipulate large, sometime awkward boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Participate in an On-Call rotation to provide after-hours technical support.
