The HR Specialist is responsible for supporting the planning and delivery of the company's health, disability, leaves, 401K/RRSP and wellness (physical, mental, financial) programs. You will support, contribute to, and bring to life, the benefits program execution through thoughtful support and input into program development. Partnering with the Sr. HR Manager, this role helps support all activities related to time off / leaves, health & disability, retirement plans and wellness programs. This position is 70% on-site.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Manage benefit broker and vendor relationships, including evaluation and replacement of brokers when appropriate.
- Work with benefit broker to evaluate existing benefit programs to ensure they remain competitive, compliant and cost effective, as well as identify new opportunities
- Oversee the benefits renewal and approval process, including coordinating discussions between benefit broker, local office HR, and regional leadership
- Executes the planning, administration, documentation and delivery of the employee benefit program, retirement plans, vendor invoicing, time off and leave programs & processes
- Provides analytics and insights/ recommendations on enhancements to benefit program design, policy, philosophy, strategy and technology
- Develop benefit communications and tools to promote ongoing program awareness, including materials for new hire onboarding and benefit summaries
- Main point of contact for employees and managers for any benefits, disability or leave inquiries
- Manage disability claims and administers leaves
- Complete benefits onboarding and offboarding activities for employees
- Facilitating Benefits presentations and sessions for employees
- Ensure that company benefits, and leave-of-absence policies comply with the local and federal legislations
- Determine and advise payroll of correct benefits deductions for team members
- Respond to benefit inquiries and escalations from HR and team members in Canada, including resolution of any enrollment or coverage issues.
- Create leave of absence policy documents and leave of absence process flows
- Manage various projects through the entire life cycle, coordinating the efforts of vendors, internal team members and other business units.
- Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
- Support Recruitment & Payroll as required

**Requirements**:

- 3-5 years of experience in employee benefits with an emphasis on open enrollment
- Experience with US Benefits/401(k) and Canadian Benefits
- Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or finance or equivalent
- CEBS, SHRM or CPHR designations are preferred

**Further Requirements**:

- Intermediate knowledge of benefits & retirement plans in Canada and in the United States
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with management and employees on compensation and benefits issues
- A deep understanding of payroll processes, benefits program systems and processes, and various benefits laws and regulations
- Strong vendor management skills
- Ability to thrive in a multi-plan benefit environment
- Advanced MS Office Skills; mail merge functions, Microsoft Excel VLOOKUP and workbook functions, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Strong project management and negotiation skills
- Ability to problem solve, both individually and as part of a project team.
- Ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written communication.
- Experience creating clear and concise benefit communications to educate new hires, to support open enrollment and support new benefit initiatives.
- Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
- Track record of recommending process improvements to improve efficiency.
- Positive attitude, willingness to “go the extra mile”.
