**Athabasca University's Human Resources department**is currently recruiting for the position of Benefits Administrator**.**

Athabasca University has transitioned to a near-virtual work environment. This role has been assessed to be Virtual with Place-Based Functions. While this role can be primarily performed in a virtual environment, there are some functions that will require the incumbent to come into AU's place-based location in Athabasca. The frequency of times requiring the incumbent to be in AU's place-based location will be determined by their supervisor in collaboration with the incumbent.

**_ Please note this is a temporary full-time (1.0 FTE)position ending in April 30, 2024._**

Reporting to the Coordinator, Benefits within the Human Resources department, this is one of three Administrator roles who share in the duties of the Benefits Unit. The incumbent shares in the responsibility for the administration of all University benefits, leave entitlements, and fund allocations. The Benefits Administrators arethe first contact with staff for orientation, leave and retirement planning and requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. A high level of confidentiality is also a requirement.

This position requires a strong understanding of pension and benefits eligibility; allotments and leave entitlements; and employment standards. The incumbent willrespond to a wide variety of complex questions, concerns and information requests and provide assistance to the Coordinator, Benefits and Manager, Payroll & Benefits, as required.

The work completed is in accordance with AU policies, procedures, collective agreements and adheres to external legislation and regulations including FOIPP, pension plans, benefit carrier contracts, and internal audit requirements. The Administratorplays an integral role ensuring excellence in service within Payroll and Benefits and Human Resources.

**Qualifications**:

- Grade 12 with a minimum of 3 - 5 years Human Resources related experience preferably in a unionized environment.*
- A related 2 year diploma and/or Benefits Administrator Certificate are preferable.*
- Experience with report writing tools is desirable.
- A good understanding of AU benefit plans, policies and procedures with exposure to AU collective agreements is desirable.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, good analytical skills with the ability to prioritize workload in order to adhere to inflexible timelines and be able to work independently.
- Must ensure confidentiality is maintained with all information.
- An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
