Do you want to make a meaningful impact within your community? Do you have front-line, social services, or customer service experience? The Mustard Seed is seeking a passionate and dedicated **Street Team Worker** who will provide an identifiable and visible presence within the local community.

The Mustard Seed’s Street Team Worker will foster a Christ-centered understanding of poverty and homelessness to transform worldviews and mobilize the community. The purpose of the Street Team Worker is to provide an identifiable and visible presence within the community that optimizes safety, builds relationships, values people, and provides public education. The Street Team program is targeted towards individuals and families that are chronically homeless and have multiple barriers to permanent housing and accessing services. This role will also focus on building relationships with local businesses, and stakeholders by facilitating educational opportunities for people to broaden their knowledge of issues surrounding poverty and homelessness.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Prepare, load, and maintain supply cart for outreach route
- Connect and build rapport with street populations sleeping rough through intensive outreach
- Creating and fostering relationships with local businesses to increase awareness around issues of poverty and homelessness
- Provide short-term problem solving, and basic need and harm reduction supplies
- Identify and assess supports and referrals and provide advocacy supports when needed
- Maintain accurate documentation regarding client interactions, services provided, and files to track outcomes
- Attend meetings and trainings when required
- Connect with all businesses in defined neighbourhoods and provide follow up, resources, and training.
- Participate in meetings with other agencies and stakeholders, actively contribute, and collaborate.
- Abide by all Health and Safety protocols and procedures (ex. incident reports, near misses), and mandatory training courses (NVCI, safeTalk, First Aid)
- Other duties as assigned

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**
- Empathy for the poor and a desire for greater understanding concerning poverty and justice issues in an urban center
- 1-year front-line experience in a social serving agency working with vulnerable populations
- Degree or equivalent in Social Work; Psychology and related fields is considered a strong asset
- Ability to work in a highly stressful and changing environment
- Must have excellent boundaries
- Strong computer, communication and conflict-resolution skills
- A self-starter with the ability to work in a cross-functional team
- Proven ability to work in a respectful and client-centered manner
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples and individuals from diverse cultures is essential
- Current First Aid and CPR is required

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- This unique position requires team members to walk long distances, carrying bags with supplies that weigh between 20-25 pounds, in all weather conditions
- Physical and mental effort will be moderate
- Mental Efforts: adapting to a fast-paced environment, intense and challenging situations, operating a computer and tablet, perceiving, and quickly responding to crises within the community, quick, creative problem solving required
- Physical Efforts: requires working outside in various climates, involves moderate levels of physical effort, including but not limited to, standing and walking for long periods, climbing stairs, bending, lifting, and pulling the supplies cart
- Navigating interactions with challenging clients who may exhibit unpredictable behavior, including swearing, anger, and the possibility of becoming aggressive
