Why is this role important?
- The incumbent leads strategic and operational activities related to the development, enhancement, promotion, implementation, and use of data standards to collect and report financial and statistical data in health service organizations (Standards for Management Information Systems in Health Service Organizations (MIS Standards) and related products). They are responsible for liaising with provinces/territories/health service organizations to support implementation and use of CIHI data standards and use of the data, aligning with corporate data advancement strategies and priorities.- The MIS Standards are used in Canadian health service organizations to collect and report financial and statistical information on their day-to-day operations. Related products and methodologies work in concert with the MIS Standards to support health system decision makers in the understanding and use of financial and statistical information.

What you'll do
- 1. Provide leadership and guidance to staff. Supervise, coach, coordinate and monitors work, workload, and performance of staff to ensure quality, continuous learning opportunities and on-time completion of departmental deliverables and commitments. Conduct annual performance management reviews.
- 2. Leads the development and implementation of a strategy to ensure the MIS Standards meets the evolving structure of the Canadian healthcare system and the needs of its decision-makers.
- 3. Leads a team of MIS experts responsible by providing leadership and expertise in the development, the understanding and the interpretation of the MIS Standards and related methodologies.
- 4. Leads the standards revision cycle to ensure the MIS Standards stay relevant, accessible, and timely; this includes leading various consultation processes and proposing revision approaches among potentially diverse data providers.
- 5. Attends and leads the activities of national advisory and working groups in relation to the standards. Manages and coordinates ad hoc working groups in support of the MIS Standards revision process, as required.
- 6. Contributes to the development of MIS Standards and associated education workshops, webinars, and e-learning.
- 7. Works with other teams within FSI to ensure continual improvement in the quality of data submissions to the Canadian MIS Database and the Canadian Patient Cost Database, as well as the quality of information for reporting and analysis.
- 8. Identifies opportunities to expand the use and understanding of the MIS Standards within CIHI, promoting the use of common definitions and concepts. Collaborates with the Data Governance office to ensure the MIS Standards are used to their full potential.
- 9. Promotion of the MIS Standards and other CIHI products and services through participation on external committees, presentations and/or attendances at conferences, preparation of articles for publication and other activities, as required.
- What you'll bring to the table
- Graduate degree in health services or business administration or, designation as a Chartered Accountant, Certified General Accountant, or Certified Management Accountant, or equivalent education/experience.
- Five years’ experience working in a related field.
- Three years’ supervisory experience, including mentoring and coaching staff.
- Solid understanding of management information systems in health care and the use of financial and statistical information for decision making.
- Knowledge and experience working with provincial Ministries of health, health system and health systems planning.
