The Operations Supervisor oversees train and engine operations and is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of all trains and switching activities. The Operations Supervisor further provides overall front line support, guidance, leadership and direction to the operating employees responsible for train and terminal operation. This position is responsible for the execution of the Central Manitoba Rail Service and Safety Plan, ensuring customer commitments are met safely and on time. **Please note this position will be for days, evenings and weekends.**

**General Responsibilities**
- Safety_
- Actively participates in the development and execution of Central Manitoba Railway's Safety Management Plan and Initiatives
- Manages the operational testing program by observing, documenting, and evaluating safe work practices per Safety and Operating Rules, communicating results, and utilizing the escalation process, if necessary
- Facilitate employee meetings and programs to emphasize safety and discuss safety risks
- Investigates accidents and incidents, determines root cause, and resolves or escalates
- Service Delivery_
- Responsible for the operational performance of Central Manitoba Railway's train, switching and customer delivery operations
- Ensures the operating department is providing service in keeping with Central Manitoba Railway's Vision, Mission and Values
- Develops and supports daily and weekly operating plans for the team ensuring customer needs are being met
- Coordinates train crew activities with the other departments ensuring shop services, maintenance of way, and transload activities are provided train services as required
- Responsible for building relationships, monitoring customers satisfaction and managing customers expectations for the division
- Monitors reporting activities of the train crews to confirm appropriate billing is possible
- Leadership & Employee Development_
- Influences and inspires others to achieve company objectives
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with peers, customers and Class 1 contacts
- Leads others in adapting to innovative work environments and ensures awareness on departmental initiatives, decisions, policies, are communicated
- Provides for the delivery of training and developmental requirements related to the department
Management and Administration
- Assists in managing monthly operating budgets, service plans, personnel development plans, and resource requirements for the department
- Manages the department's human resources including participation in hiring, coaching, leading activities, monitoring payroll and WCB functions
- Responsible for developing and maintaining standard operating procedures, operating the department safely and meeting all regulatory requirements
- Interprets legislation, regulations, policies, rules and procedures as they relate to the department's services and employees
- Interprets and administers the terms of the Collective Agreement
- Manages the relationship between the department and its customers

**Skills, Knowledge & Abilities**
- Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with people of all backgrounds, levels of comprehension including managers, employees, customers, and the public
- Demonstrates initiative to work with others to foster a respectful workplace; creates a work environment that is open to maintaining positive relationships; empowers individuals and teams to set and accomplish goals with objectives
- Understands effective cost monitoring, control, reporting, and bottom-line profitability and accountability
- Knowledge of equipment, systems, standard operating practices, and regulations governing Canadian rail operations
- Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement in providing information to internal or external customers in a courteous and tactful manner with regard to sensitive or confidential issues
- Ability to handle a diverse range of responsibilities in an entrepreneurial environment
- Proficient in the use of computer equipment, operating systems, word processing, spreadsheet and database software
- Ability to hold and maintain a valid driver's license and safety critical medical status including clear drug and alcohol screening

**Qualifications**
- Minimum four (4) years experience working in a railway operating environment
- Minimum of one (2) years in a leadership or supervisory position
- Experience with marketing, sales and customer service in the railway industry is an asset
- Hold a minimum Railway Conductor qualification; Locomotive Engineer qualification would be an asset.
