Job Title: Vice President of Nursing

St. Patrick's Home of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President of Nursing to lead our nursing department. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for providing visionary and progressive leadership, strategic management, and collaborative interdisciplinary practice environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic direction, annual goals, and objectives for the nursing department.
  • Delegate responsibilities to qualified staff, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and standards.
  • Promote and coordinate services/programs with community agencies and other healthcare providers.
  • Negotiate nursing services and supply contracts with vendors.
  • Lead in the development and implementation of resident care standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial legislation and protocols, responding to inquiries and directives.
  • Develop policies and best practices to ensure compliance with Long Term Care legislation.
  • Assume overall coordination of the Admissions process and serve as liaison with Ontario Health at Home.
  • Oversee the work of the RAI/MDS Coordinator, ensuring high-risk indicators are addressed and managed.
  • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of Infection Prevention and Control at St. Patrick's Home.
  • Coordinate all aspects of Nursing Restorative at St. Patrick's Home.
  • Oversee the work of the BSO team and program.
  • Accountable for all Clinical Programs under the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021.
  • Oversee the work of the RN Clinical Educator, Admissions Clerk, and Ward Clerks.
  • Address complaints and concerns related to clinical nursing, Nursing programs, and procedures.
  • Serve as primary clinical support, delivering reports and current information via 24-hour summary and leadership report.
  • Conduct and delegate clinical program evaluations.
  • Determine educational needs and coordinate education sessions for the department.
  • Participate in human resource development through hiring decisions, staff performance appraisals, and attendance support.
  • Establish, monitor, and evaluate staffing patterns and work schedules.
  • Assume fiscal responsibility for the operation of the Nursing Department.

Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate in Nursing Science with additional leadership education.
  • Minimum of 5 years nursing experience with 5 years nursing administration experience.
  • Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership ability in working within an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Knowledge of long-term care facility administration, including accreditation standards and the RAI-MDS process.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing Human Resources, HR investigation techniques, and financial administration.
  • Judgment and initiative in problem resolution of complex and sensitive issues.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and supervise and manage others.
  • Team player with ability to function as a group facilitator and chairperson of committees.
  • Possess an understanding of the aging process in terms of psychological, physical, and functional assessments and implications.
  • Ability to interact with local Universities and Colleges in supporting student placements and practicums.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with RAI/MDs assessment system and web-based systems pertinent to LTC.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage multiple deadlines.
