Stella Maris is seeking for a Part**-**time reliable and passionate Shelter support. The position of Shelter Support at Stella Maris Parish has a core purpose to help our shelter ministry team provide for the needs of our shelter guests. As a parish community which strives to be a community of Christian faith, hope and love, we strive to provide an environment of caring and compassion for our shelter guests. The shelter support position will report directly to the Outreach Coordinator. Our approach to support shelter occupants is based on a relation model, not limited to the transactional. Thus, this position is another example of our willingness to support our guests by having a friendly face available to support them.

**The main duties and responsibilities are**:

- Schedule shower and laundry access times for shelter residents at least twice a week (4 hours at a time)
- Ensure the shower room and laundry areas are clean after use, which should be done by the person who showers
- Provide kitchen access during shower and laundry times to fill water bottles, wash dishes/cutlery, etc.
- Communicate weekly with the Outreach Coordinator.
- First Aid Training assets
- Willing to complete or already have Naloxone training
- Willingness and ability to interact with the home and food insecure
- Any previous experience working with those who are vulnerable is an asset
- Ability to deescalate situations that may pose a safety risk
- Committed to active participation in the Stella Maris Parish community
- Previous work with street-engaged is a strong asset
- Strong communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with the shelter guests and provide an environment where they feel cared for and part of our community
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Teamwork

This is a part time position of 8 hours per week.
