**General Purpose**

The Part-Time Advocacy and Protective Service Worker (APSW) will provide support to people with a developmental disability and people who experience a dual diagnosis (developmental disability and mental health). The APSW is required to support their supervisor and other team members in delivering service to people, and will interact with people using the APS services at Family Service Kent in ways that model the organizational values.

The APSW will respect and uphold the Values, Mission, and Vision of Family Service Kent, demonstrating the highest standards of courtesy and respect in their dealings with other employees, clients, and internal and external stakeholders.

**Job Duties**

Support people with disabilities to live in a safe environment.

Advocate for people with disabilities in their communities so as to promote full inclusion in the communities in which they live.

Assess people requiring support in order to determine the emotional, physical, social, and financial needs and to assist them in finding ways to meet these needs.

Advocate for individuals in crisis to promote their stability and well-being.

Advocate within the legal system in all levels of the court.

Maintain up-to-date files on all individuals served according to accreditation standards.

Participate in community planning, and personal planning, related to both individual and systemic needs.

Participate in all aspects of the APS team.

Ensure appropriate personal protective equipment is worn as needed.

Adhere to the high professional standards.

Perform other related duties as required.
