**About the Role**:
The Skills Training for Employment and Post-Secondary (STEP) program is a project funded through the Youth Employment Skills Strategy (YESS). This initiative is the Government of Canada's commitment to help youth overcome barriers to employment, develop a broad range of skills and knowledge in order to participate in the current and future labour market and to promote education and skills training as being foundational to labour market participation. These barriers include but are not limited to challenges faced by youth involved in the criminal justice system, disabilities, racialized, recent immigrant, Indigenous, and youth who are involuntarily not in employment, education, or training.
Reporting to the director, the Youth Employment Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day delivery and coordination of the STEP program, in order to ensure effective and efficient intake, assessment, programming, exit and follow-up for youth while adhering to the guidelines, policies and mission of the John Howard Society, and our ongoing commitment to operating within an anti-oppressive framework.
The Youth Employment Coordinator will participate and contribute as a member of the leadership team within the Employment and Training services division and actively engage, support and contribute to the day-to-day operations of all employment and training programs.
The Youth Employment Coordinator is a person who understands the dynamics of the communities and the service users we serve and will provide leadership and quality assurance. The Youth Employment Coordinator is committed to creating an accessible and supportive environment for staff and program participants that recognizes diversity and cultural competence as integral components of program design and delivery.
Program Management
Assist program director to recruit and interview program staff
Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of program staff including training, mentoring, coaching, motivating, and conducting performance appraisals
Maintain staff records and collect relevant information to support performance management of the project, regularly reviewing statistical data to ensure program deliverables are met and reporting any variances to the Director.
Contribute perspectives to budgets/spending/revenue
Ongoing development of systems to ensure statistics, reports and funding requirements are met
Ensure the provisions of services are consistent with the YESS by coordinating the intake, assessment, counselling, exit, referral and follow up processes.
Responsible for the equitable distribution of workloads among the teams to ensure deliverables are met
Ensure quality control measures are followed regarding employer financial incentives and service user financial incentives.
Assist team to recruit youth and conduct one-to-one intake and assessments and select eligible and suitable yout
Keep up to date on front line computer software such as GCOS/Office 365/Zoom
Work with staff to develop and deliver a team-based marketing/outreach plan to promote the STEP program that directly responds to target populations inclusive of youth with diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Orientation and supervision of student/volunteer placements
Liaises with Employment Services, Literacy Basic Skills and other JHS programs to ensure coordination between programs and effective utilization of available resources.
Plan and facilitate team meeting

Community, Statistical Administration
Attend and contribute to community meetings and events that help promote the project
Public presentations to community groups, youth and other community stakeholders
Cultivate relationships, partnerships and opportunities with a diverse range of community organizations, and businesses
Support program director in developing funding and program proposals
Collaborate with community partners that service youth with complex employment barriers, such as OW, ODSP, schools, CAS, the courts, DRPS, probation etc. for the purposes of referral and recruitment.
Support the team to establish relationships with employers or sector associations in Durham Region to determine job opportunities and advocate for participant job placement.
