EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

**Scientific Associate**
**Neuropeptide-induced proteinopathy in brain aging & diseases**

**Position Summary**:
Protein homeostasis is critical to maintaining the nervous system functions and brain health. Although disrupted protein homeostasis is a cardinal feature observed in an array of neurological/psychiatric disorders and during aging, its causal link to the pathophysiologies remains enigmatic, and the molecular and cellular origins of such homeostasis disturbance need to be further investigated. Based on genome-wide informatics evidence, many neuropeptides, a diverse family of small peptides with various signaling functions, are particularly vulnerable during aging and selectively affected in brain disorders, displaying signs of proteinophathies associated with cellular stress and neuron subtype-selective dysfunctions.

**Education and Experience**:

- PhD in a relevant discipline to the research project, from a recognized institution
- Experience with addiction and mental health research
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in cellular and molecular neurobiology, with significant background in functional biochemistry.
- Demonstrated expertise in key techniques such as protein-protein interaction assays (i.e., yeast two-hybrid system, Foster resonance energy transfer assays) and proteomics (i.e., mass spectrometry, protein aggregation analysis), functional imaging (i.e., Ca2+ imaging, time-lapse video microscopy, confocal microscopy) in primary neuron culture and brain slices, and genetic manipulation (i.e., viral vector, surgery, and transgenic approaches) in rodents.
- Experience with animal models related to neuropsychiatric disorders, behavioural analysis, or brain microdialysis (neurotransmitter measurement) is preferred.
- A proven track record and aptitude in scientific publishing
- Experience supervising and overseeing staff and students is preferred
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and the scientific community
- Demonstrated ability to interact with populations of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds
