**JOB PURPOSE**
**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Key Responsibility: Strategy Development and Execution**
- Support the development, execution and analysis of results of Policy and Advocacy strategy
- Lead the development and management (including compliance with) protocols around policy and advocacy
- Develop - in consultation with other departments
- policy frameworks and briefing notes
- Contribute to and/or leads Policy and Advocacy projects as per direction of the Director
**Key Responsibility: Coordination and Education of Staff in Strategy Implementation**
- Work closely with the Government Relations and Indigenous Priorities teams to align UWBC’s Government Relations strategy with the development and execution of UWBC’s Policy and Advocacy strategy
- Provide staff education on UWBC’s Thought Leadership direction and Policy and Advocacy Strategy
**Key Responsibility: Public Policy Institute Lead**
- Lead the annual planning cycle for the PPI leadership training program and alumni events
- Works with the Director to recruit instructors including providing acknowledgement
- Manage the intake process for participants and communication with students
- Coordinate all aspects of the PPI including budget management, curriculum and session planning, booking space, organizing guest speakers, etc.
- Plan and coordinate across the UWBC teams PPI alumni relationship management and engagement strategy
**Key Responsibility: External Engagement**
- Conduct environmental scans and external research
- Consult other Thought Leaders in the social sector to align and inform UWBC’s strategy
- Attend external events and conferences to further research and or as part of strategy implementation
- Other duties as required
**QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS**
**Education**:
- Degree in public policy, political science, community/business development, economics, communications, or related discipline. Equivalent experience and expertise may be considered. Master’s degree an asset.
- Diploma/Certification in non-profit management an asset.
**Experience**:
- Three (3) years working in government, civil society and/or non-profit sector
- Experience in policy writing, document preparation, research and environmental scans/literature reviews
- Experience in event or program management/coordination preferred
- A high level of comfort in interfacing and presenting in public forums
- Experience in working with both grass roots organizations as well as larger institutional partners
**Skills**:
- Ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external interactions
- Strong understanding of Canadian politics, including the areas of responsibility/roles of each level of government including First Nations
- Strong understanding of needs facing the non-profit sector in BC
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills including public speaking
- Self-starter and independently driven
- Organized and time efficient
- Adaptable to schedule changes and evening availability
- Able to balance many tasks
- Adaptable and willing and eager to learn new skills on the fly
- Social media, storytelling and marketing skills an asset
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Some hours outside of business hours to meet deadlines or attend meetings and events
- Requires a driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
- Work week requirement may adjust based on needs of strategy implementation, stakeholders and timings of events
