The Thrift Store Clerk provides service to customers, sort incoming donations and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Listowel Thrift Store.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Maintain customer service standards.
- Supply service to customers and greet them when entering the store.
- Accurate completion of all customer transactions including cash, debit and credit card sales with mínimal voids, overages, or shortages.
- Adhere to store policy about refunds, voids, and returns.
- Contribute to meet store sales targets, efficient courteous customer service: tactfully manage difficult customers.
- Pay particular attention to store security, by monitoring activity within the store.
- Handle the merchandise in a safe and organized manner, aid in stock rotation.
- Maintain sorting/processing of donated goods; ensure correct pricing and compliance with quality standards.
- Work with volunteers as assigned.
- Perform other position related duties as assigned.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- This is a permanent full-time position based on 50 hours bi-weekly.
- This scheduled is based on working weekdays and Saturdays.
- Flexibility in scheduling is needed. The Manager will set the hours of work and work schedule.
- Work will be schedule as per the Thrift Store operational requirements.
- Ability to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching, and reaching are needed; ability to lift/move 40 pounds.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

- Completion of Secondary School.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

**EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE**:

- Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience in a retail environment preferred.
- Cash handling experience is needed.
- Knowledge and experience using a cash register and interact/credit card is a definite asset.
- Basic math skills needed to calculate discounts and percentages as well as reading skills.

- Ability to work as part of a productive team and. or independently as needed.
- Self-motivated/disciplined.
- Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
- Ability to keep information in confidence and exercise good judgement.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
- Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background check screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
